I don't just mean who was the first black guy to ever run long distance. Jackie Robinson wasn't the first black MLB player either.
I mean who is the distance running equivalent of Jackie Robinson.

America is STILL waiting for an American-born runner to break the "color barrier." Distance running is still a white man's sport in America. Sure there are foreign-born black American runners (Lagat, Lomong, Meb, Maree), and there are black mid-distance runners, but we're still waiting for a GREAT long-distance black runner born in the USA.
In America, distance running has progressed about as far as skiing in terms of being for the white privileged man.

Agree with this. Foot Locker still pretty much looks like a Lynyrd Skynyrd concert.
WrongAnyone can run, but african american culture just does not find any interest in long distance running (generally).

A better question would be who is the Jackie Robinson of track and field ? Why limit it to distance running ? and the answer is Jesse Owens.

Yes. That's because the entity "Major League Baseball" (MLB) didn't exist in the era Robinson played for Brooklyn and Walker for Toledo.
Marielle Hall could be that American-born runner to break the "color barrier". She won the NCAA 10K outdoor title and finished 4th at US Nationals I think.

Yes it did
MLB was founded in 1869
Actually MLB was founded in 1876 when the National League was founded.

No, that's not a better question. And that wouldn't be the answer anyway.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
