In a 5k you can never run your fastest when the first mile is the quickest.
I'll say that in my 5K PR my first mile was the quickest.
I don't know how many others here would say that.
I was an 800/1500 runner.
If I worked more on developing my 5000 or just raced it more and got stronger my ideal splits would become more even and maybe negative.
I looked up Aouita's 5000m WR when he ran 12:58
2:35.4
2:37.7
2:33.3
2:39.7
2:32.3
Not sure how to classify it.
The first 1K was on pace. The last was negative and the middle was erratic.
