I\'m going into my junior year of High School and am putting in the work and staying focused this summer in the hopes of breaking 16:30 for the 5k. I started my base training at about 45 mpw and have worked my way up to 65 mpw and then back down to 55 mpw over the past 5 weeks. Mostly doubles at medium to medium hard pace, and have been lifting weights off and on. Also been doing 1 hill/interval workout per week. Yesterday I ran in a 4th of July 4 mile race, just to see where I\'m at and ran it at a semi-conservative pace in 23:50. This is a 30 second improvement since last year when I ran it in 24:20.
My sophomore PR\'s are as follows:
5k- 17:15
10k- 37:00
1600- 4:57
3200- 11:00
I\'m very disappointed in my results from last year and am hoping I improve quite a bit leading into junior year. My question is: Based on this training and these limited race results, do you think I have a shot at breaking 16:30 on a semi-hilly 5k course this year? All feedback is appreciated!
