I think that's just the thing though...Lemaitre may be one of the few that's not using. There's not much suspicion of it.

BTW...he just ran a 20.11 ...that would be good enough for 1st place in the USATF champs last week.

Lemaitre was only 0.3 of a second of his best time. That's not huge in a 200.

How long do you all expect guys to remain at their peak? And to perform near their peak every meet? Maybe these guys are just getting old. Mid-twenties isn't exactly young.

I'm not a super good athlete, but the way my body is acting up (lower back pain and hip pain for a few years now) approaching 30 makes me wonder how the elite can do this day in and day out after their early twenties and still have energy and not get injured. Somebody like MJ who runs a WR at 32 just makes me think not possible.

Ok, let me be sure I have this right. Your claim:

Blake has been doping aggressively for several years, but now the doping tests are tougher, so he's backed off and has opened his season with a mediocre 200.

Meanwhile, Gatlin has been building his doping gradually since he came back and can still dope effectively enough under the new rules to run times that are lifetime bests roughly 10 years after he won his Olympic gold medal.

Is that a fair summary?

It's difficult to say what he would have run today if he had run the entire race full-out. As soon as he realized he had been beaten, he stopped trying. He probably would have run in the 20.0-20.1 range if he hadn't shut it down. Which is still bad by Blake's standards.

I'm inclined to believe the injury from last year has more to do with this than any doping/not doping. I don't see any real reason why he suddenly wouldn't be doping now if he was before.

I think there are two slightly different issues here:

(1) Blake's strain was very severe because it occurred close to the joint and was considered career-threatening. He is quite some distance from being 100% back as is Felix, and Jeter is even further back. Doping is not relevant here: These people were all seriously injured and the evidence is quite clear on video.

(2) But while you see people like Gatlin, Rodgers, Gay, Vacaut in France, Kilty, Bowie, and Thompson all running fast times, you see NOBODY in Jamaica. With the exception of one or two times by VCB, they are all either much slower, or they are "injured" like Bolt and Fraser-Pryce. And perhaps the reason now is they actually have testing in Jamaica, under threat by WADA of kicking them out of the Olympics. No more out of competition free rides during general prep.
