I'm not replying to this thread just to see it bumped by to front page. Another prediction for Kenenisa Bekele is I don't think he is finished on the track, he wil post another fast 10000m sub 26:45 before his career is over and also become the first man to run sub 2:02:30 thus becoming one of the few men to hold the track: 5,000m, 10,000m; and road eligible marathon world records at the same time. Just wait and see!!!
Isn't he past his peak now?

hope you're right!
Vipam, you had a lot of doubters at the beginning of this thread but you were dead right about the track records. What is it that makes you make this new prediction? I don't know much about what Bekele is up to lately, just curious.

He just almost set a new world record. Seems like he is still at his peak. Getting over an injury doesn't mean you are past your peak.
Both of the last posters are correct. He is passed his peak in the 5000m and 10000m but still curious if hs can dominate. Look for him to go sub 26:45 non championship before securing one Championship marathon Gold medal and becoming first man to run marathom in sub 2:02:25. Joining short list of athletes to hold track 5000, 10000m and marathon at the sametime!

Based on what? No one knows if he is past his best 5k days or not. If his marathon is any indication, then should still be able to run a top notch 5k.
In the 5000 and 10000m his peak is the WR so unless he can break the WR he is past his peak in those events. He could still run 12:48 and 26:40 but not his WR.

He just almost set a world record. That means it is possible he could set a world record or run close to it in the 5000 and 10000. He ran 26:45 on like 6 weeks of training a year or two ago.

well, that was in 2011 so 5 years ago now...however, I do still think he has the capability to do well in the 10,000m but we'll see if he actually tries again. Even though he is more suited for the marathon now, I can't see him having his last 10,000m as a DNF this last summer

Kipchoge's time in London would have been close to 2:02:30 in Berlin this year. The sub 2 hr project has done a course comparison and Berlin is 100-200m faster than London.

I don't think he says it's a "fact" that Geb was on EPO; he makes an insinuation, but not a statement of fact.
As for the records, I agree that 26:22 and 12:39 won't be touched. Bekele may eventually hit around low 26:40s and 12:45 or so, but that's it.
Hi Soi Sauce,
I know of someone who was in Cofidis, after about a year in the team he had a dodgy heart. Anyone as suspicious as I am?
Wow, this is a trip. I haven't posted on this forum in almost 12 years and remember when Vipam started this thread 14 years ago, damn! Can't believe it's still here.
For some reason, when I heard Kenensia was running Dubai, this thread was the first thing that popped into my head out of nowhere. This is probably the most excited I have felt about a long distance race in a decade, it's great to see Kenensia back in a place where he is talking about a world record. Athletes like him have been sadly missing from the sport over the past few years and there was a time when I thought we would never get to see him race at the very top again.
I think it's his time and I wouldn't be suprised to see him run very low 2.02 in Dubai and put the record out of reach of all around him even Kipchoge. Kenensia is a different animal even when compared to Kipchoge and I only see him getting better given his history of light training in the last 7 years. Once in a lifetime talent who will once again annihilate the distance world records.
Good call on Kenny B!
Letsrun remembers what you said in 2002.

the guy's an enormous talent, but you obviously have no idea how fast 12:39/26:22 is... i'll wager everything i own that he doesn't get either record... how about you???
Did this guy ever pay up?
Good call? Bekele didn't win World 5000 that year. Eliud did. Moran

I think the early posters in this (2002) thread were overly optimistic that an effective test for EPO had been brought in. That didn't happen until AFTER 2004, the year in which El G suddenly retired despite at the height of his earnings potential, and the year that Bekele ran his ridiculous times.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
