Was wondering if anyone has done this? I started running at age 33. Ran prs of mile - 5:09 age 49, 5k - 18:16 age 49 and marathon 3:01:03 age 50. Then had to take a year off due to a groing injury at age 51. Been back to running the last 3 years and getting a little faster each year. The first year back I basically babied myself with 3 milers, 3 times a week, to not cause a reoccurance of the groing problem. Now this year, Saturday I hit my fastest 5k since coming back, 19:19. So now I'm wondering if it's possible at my age to best my previous 18:16 5k pr. I'm currently running about 40ish miles per week compared with the 60-70 mpw I was doing at my peak.
Would love to hear from some folks that have come back in their 50s or older to pr. Also does anyone think I should bump up my mileage or just keep it around 40ish with some hard stuff? I'm feeling really good now and feel like I could handle a little more mileage. Dont know it would help or not.
