IF this was the case, the current goal differential is FIVE (Germany +4, Ghana -1). Even if Ghana won by 2 goals, the Germans would have to lose by 4 for Ghana to overtake them. If Germany lost by 3, then the next tiebrearer would be total goals scored. Again, based upon having 6 goals scored thru 2 games versus Ghana's 3, I give the edge to Germany.

Slice it however you want, but barring the ridiculous happening, Germany is thru.

Germany is basically a lock to advance, but they will still play for the draw against USA. A draw guarantees a group win. A loss gives the USA the group win. They will play conservatively and for the draw, as will the US. It helps that Klinsmann and Joachim Loew are buddies. Draw is a good bet for this upcoming game.

Isn't the USA thru win lose or draw against Germany? If Ghana wins, they'll have 4 pts, same as US (assuming a loos to germany) but the US beat them head-to-head so they will be #2 in the group...

Portugal is screwed, not only do the US have to lose against Germany, but Portugal must win by 6 clear goals to overturn to goal difference from the loss to Germany...

No. Point differential comes before head-to-head. if us loses by 1, ghana must win by 2. If us loses by 2 or more, ghana goes through with a win

The US could well lose by 4 or 5. Their best players are leftover Germans.

US played better than Portugal, who had two cheeky goals. However, our second goal was after an offside right winger, and it was close enough to think a tie is almost more fair than US winning.

The US played better, but they didn't dominate. Based on the match stats it was a very even match where Portugal had the most chances. They hit the post and Howard had to make a few big saves. If one takes off the partisan goggles for a moment, 2-2 was actually a fair result.
