The commonwealth games are worthless in any case. Only people from Britain care about it.

No true, outside of the Olympics and WC it is probably the most significant global championship. The commonwealth games are a big-big deal to commonwealth nations.
Btw, since the commonwealth nations are former territories of the former British Empire, why the USA don't compete in them?
give me a break. it's like a conference meet, and the Olympics are the state championships.

The Commonwealth of Nations is a modern grouping of nations for which the rules of membership have changed several times in the 20th century but which have required members to be either dominions of the UK or to accept the English monarch as the head of the commonwealth. The United States of America doesn't/won't meet those criteria.

But it is true that top-tier Kenyans skip it more often than not.

You mentioned in another thread that he may have been pacing Chepseba and didn't intend to finish the race. Do you think that's the case or do you think he dropped out because of injury?

Absolute rubbish, they're a tenth rate competition, especially in T&F, and that's being generous.
Feeling left out?

Asbel took off like a rocket. I hand timed the first lap myself on my iPhone and I got like 53.2 (even if you add a few tenths for human error, that's pretty fast). He led until the final lap and it looked like he'd been pacing his buddy Chepseba who'd shadowed him all along. However, journalist Michelle Katami (who seems to know him personally?) tweeted direct quotes about the world record attempt and also suggested fatigue. Michelle's twitter is linked below if you're interested, you may have to scroll down her timeline a bit to get to the relevant stuff.

Word is, Silas, who's defending commonwealth champ, was exhausted after Rome so he didn't even bother. Asbel, on the other hand, really wanted to go and that's why he ran, despite being fatigued and jet-lagged, but couldn't compete with fresher legs.
The 53 nations in the Commonwealth have a population of over 2.2 billion people, almost 1/3 of the World's citizens.
At the most recent Summer Olympic Games, London/2012, Commonwealth athletes won 41 track and field medals, including 16 golds. Among these golds were the Men's 100, 200, 400, 800, 5000, 10000, marathon, steeplechase, 4 x 100, and 4 x 400. Commonwealth nations that won track/field medals were Jamaica, Kenya, Great Britain, Trinidad & Tobago, South Africa, Grenada, Botswana, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Uganda, Bahamas. There are about another half dozen Commonwealth nations that have medallists from previous Olympic Games.
So is Kiprop done for the rest of the year? No commonwealth games, no diamond league, right?
Commonwealth nations are fail

You're a bit out of date. Mozambique (Portuguese colony) and Rwanda (Belgian colony) were recently admitted. South Sudan has also applied.
According to rumor, Israel, Palestine, Japan and Libya are potential applicants. Hong Kong has also made noises, which is interesting considering they're part of China.
Once the Queen goes, it's proposed that the next Head is elected from one of the member countries.
If the UK Independence Party has it's way, there could be some sort of economic union between Commonwealth countries to rival the EU.
Also found the following
Algeria (applied)
Angola (interested)
Burundi (interested)
Democratic Republic of the Congo
East Timor (interested)
Madagascar (applied)
Georgia (interested)
Somaliland (if it gets independence from Somalia)

You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. With out a doubt the commonwealth games are the biggest and most competitive track meet outside of the Olympics and the world Championships. Perhaps you should do some research before your speak. - This coming from an America. .
The kenyan federation butchered this one.
Didn't they have tryouts for the world relays? They should have just had the tryouts for world relays. Then they are down to 4 people.
Of those 4, they'd say, we'll pick the best 2 or 3 (how many can go?).
It doesn't matter. Does anyone have any doubt Kenya's 3rd best can spank Britain's #1?
The only reason why I thought Kiprop would want to go is if it would help him with Nike and if Nike cared about having him there since it's presumably on the BBC. It always is weird to me that shoes companies don't really seem to care about publicity. Runners will run in meets not on tv (Rupp in Boston for example) whereas theoretically the reason why they run for a shoe company is to generate exposure.

I did, in T&F they're behind Olympics, WC and fourteen Diamond League competitions, which is why I said "they're a tenth rate competition, especially in T&F, and that's being generous".
In fact, they are only usually a big deal to the hosting city, often not even much to the rest of the country of the host city, let alone other Commonwealth countries, which is why many T&F athletes don't attend or reluctantly do so without taking them too seriously.
Also, there are even doubts there will be a 2022 CommGames:
http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/commonwealth-games/25832867I'm involved with the 2018 CommGames on the Gold Coast and I can tell you there's a lot hand-wringing going on right now.
