Hello all.
So I have been training for a 1.5 mile police test I have in 2 weeks. I need to run it in 12:28 but I am shooting for under 12 minutes so there are no surprises come test day. I have not done an actual 1.5 mile timed run in a while, but I can run 1 mile in 7:47. ( I am a 5'6 male about 175lbs).
I am a powerlifter and have started running as of this January. Leisurely jogs are tolerable, but I strongly dislike running lap after lap on a track and have trouble staying motivated. I have this feeling of wanting to quit after every single lap. I know I can stick out 6 laps for a test but training it blows.
I am asking, could I theoretically train the next two weeks in concentrating bring down my 3-lap (.75) mile time (currently 5:37) down to 5 minutes and be able to successfully pass the 1.5 mile test? Or do I absolutely have to practice 1.5 mile runs and up in order to successfully pass? If so does anybody have any mental tips? All I think while track running for speed is: "I hate running, I hate running" and I get so demotivated. Ironically I love the challenge and 'pain' that comes with lifting weights.
Any tips and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you guys.
