I have a 5k race coming up in 9 days. I'm not a fast 19 year old girl, I'm a mom in my 30s.
I did a practice 3 mile run today at a hard effort to see where I'm at. Here were my splits:
mile one: 7:16 (not max effort, probably 90%)
mile two: 7:55 (definitely not max effort, probably 80%)
mile three: 7:15 (close to max effort, especially last half mile)
I feel like I definitely let up too much on mile 2, although this wasn't a race, so I wasn't trying to kill myself. I ran this practice outdoors on terrain that is similar to race conditions.
My goal for the race next week is 22:30 or below.
