Daniels's marathon plan A (in 2nd edition) instructs you to pick a "peak weekly mileage." It then specifies the percentage of that chosen peak mileage to hit each week during phases II-IV.
My question is: Should that peak mileage be more than, less than, or equivalent to the peak mileage I reach during base training?
For instance, by the end of base training I should be fairly comfortable with 70 mpw. I just made a big jump to 70. It beat me up, so I backed off for a week, and will eventually ramp back up to it and hold it for a few weeks before jumping into phase II's workouts.
When I start workouts, I'll back the mileage off by a bit, but I'm not sure whether I should plan on exceeding 70 mpw during the peak weeks. You only hit that peak mileage three times, for one week each, before backing off. The first week at peak mileage is week 7 of workouts.
Any experiences here? Suggestions? Do I peak during base, then back off mileage a bit and work my way back up to that same mileage while doing two hard workouts per week? Or aim to reach a slightly higher peak during phases III and IV?
Thanks
