I say hire a throws coach
I say hire a throws coach
Wow really dude. Do you even know the man. Im sure the man has done more in one meet than u have ever dreamed to do . TCU is a private school 55,000G's. No fininical aid if under 28 act so hard to build team like at public schools. His resume speaks for its self clown. There maybe some one else better but to say he is terrible makes you sound like a ass

He made 250 a yr. AFter four yrs thats a million dollars. If he wasn't a complete ghetto rich maniac, he's probably saved at least 600,000 away for this very situation. i'm not saying it's good to be canned, but he doesn't have to work for the next 4 years if he doesnt want to. If I were him I'd go to cancun and get drunk. Plus he will get hired somewhere at at least a mid major school if he wants to. The guy's living in luxury. He won championships. I say it's a fair decision to remove him given the recent dip in performances. He still made out alright.
I trust you aren't serious? If he earned a million, that means he brought home 500-600K after taxes. He wouldn't have to be a "complete ghetto rich maniac" to have not saved 600K. Sometimes, I wonder about the intelligence of many of the posters on this site. Did you honestly think he was bringing home 250K a year? Do you not understand the tax system at all? Perhaps you are one of the 50% of Americans who pay no income taxes. Believe it or not, someone has to pay for the slackers.
800fan. Get off of Coach Watts' middle man. If you want him so bad, I could you his number. While JJ was very good to us alumni, he wasn't very good at leading the program. This is the man who wanted to hire his own sister as an assistant coach. What a joke. Watts never established enough success to get the Director job. Look at ETSU now. They're a million times worse than UT.
The people on this board are liars who lie about postings that are still on the same page they are lying on.
The statement was to the effect of UNLESS he'd spent ghetto richly, that he saved money. That sounds like a presumption that he did save money. Nobody called him ghetto rich or even implied it. It was to say that would be the only way he could have spent too much, and he probably didn't.
Taxes are nothing. He's probably made more money off the payroll from Tenn than his salary, and probably got a signing bonus at the beginning. I'm sure he made much more than 250,000 a year. The poster is right, he's set for awhile.

lol they are supposed to be
I'm baaaaaaack
I stand by my comment about Darryl Anderson being bad. They are on a free fall from being a strong team to now being bad in most event areas.
Yes, I do realize the coat of tcu. I understand also that with 12.6 that you can be very successful in 2 event areas. They are not.
You right when you have a guy win NC's in 100, and was one of best in 200, make world champ team have a girl make world champ team in LJ both last year. a relay that runs 39.00 year in and out a team that runs 3:04,5 guys on that run under 20pt this year, win 3 of last 4 ncaa long jump tittles. And have a girl set Ncaa record you suck. Like i said maybe he is or is not guy for that job but you obviously feel some type of way personally, But don't hide on a msg board and say he sucks thats just stupid. If you feel that personal put your name on it dude smh
From another thread:
Word is a top SEC assistant that is a bulldog of a recruiter with a lot of overseas contacts is the top "behind the scenes" candidate. Gonna bring back multis domination that led the Vols to the titles back in the early 90's. Think best combined multis coach in the SEC right now.
He should not have been hired to coach men! Wasn't qualified and had no experience recruiting and/or coaching men. Stop talking about anything he did years ago coaching women. He ran the mens program into the ground. Along the way the Lady Vols were also given a beatdown. 10th at the SEC's!!
The former head coach ran the program down. He screwed Tennessee big time and JJ was never able to recover from it because of the crazy alumni some of who hadn't done anything for Tennessee. I can count a hand full of guys who made this program successful. It is not like Tennessee was ever churning out champions like say an Arkansas or UTEP. They had some good guys in events which no other team in the SEC wasted their time and money with. Pole Vault and multis; then of course you had the great Gatlins, Scotts and a few others later.
So you guys get of your high horses and get a life. The last two national championships that the University of Tennessee won was in what sport? Now that you guys get what you wanted, hopefully you can support the next head coach at Tennessee which by the way will not be Watts.
Lance Brauman. I don't know the specifics of his situation. Guy can recruit, and coach. If UT can hire him they should. Best chance to get on top of the SEC.
First of all let me say that I never posted anything on a public forum bashing UT T&F or JJ because of potential negative consequences it could have on recruiting by high school coaches and athletes along with potential transfers looking at this and seeing the state that people thought the program was in. This is coming from someone who was on the team while Webb and JJ were coaches, but to your point running the program into the ground is completely false, Webb's last year we got 3rd at SEC indoors and we performed terrible and got 8th outdoor so to even get 3rd indoor means you have to have a quality team and JJ's biggest up hill battle was all the athletes leaving once it was announced that he would be the director either bc the way they felt about him or for some other reason, and that happens during any coaching change in every sport. Having quality athletes in PV and Multi's when other teams do not seems like a smart coaching strategy and I was a little baffled why JJ did not capitalize on the strategy when he took in regards to multi's being that he did not have a quality multi event coach on staff. To be honest I was somewhat excited when JJ took over from his distance expertise in womens distance and being that the SEC is so strong in the sprint I thought he would have taken advantage on the situation but I never saw that happen and I will acknowledge that we do need a indoor track but word on the street and from UT's website there were once designs of the volleyball/indoor track but as soon as JJ took over a number of donors backed out which is why they are now just building a volleyball practice facility.
@GeuxVol You as a former Vol who is probably still involved in the program should be happy that JJ did capitalize on the strategy of the supporting the PV. When the former coach left, there was no multi left at Tennessee because they all transferred. For a one event athlete it is a waste of money anyways to invest in the vault unless you have 1 stud. Back in the days, vaulters ran relays these days no one wants to do anything. I understand you vols loyalty, but what i do not understand is why do you hate a man who was hired to do a job. I would also like to know which of you GuexVols ever contributed to the indoor facility. You all are bunch of egotistical dogs who need to stop barking.
Zach Ziemek of Wisconsin (Big Ten Deca Champ, #4 on the NCAA list) ran anchor on the 4x100 at Big Tens.
There is so much bs being thrown out on this site its ridiculous. I can give you about 20 reason Mr.Clark failed and it was not related to the indoor facility or Bill Webb. Here are some facts:
1. He had success with the women in spite of his introverted, quiet nature. He could give them specific orders in his unique/retrospective way and they would follow along without question. Women are generally more disciplined and self-sufficient. Men do not respond well to this approach. They needs some fire, some brimstone. He clearly did not inspire them at all.
1b: Treated us athletes like we were incapable of being adults. Too much focus on rules, too little focus on trust
2. He throttled his staff. He did all the talking at "motivational" meeting, even though he could barely be understood or heard. He had some very inspiring guys who would have done a much better job of creating team unity and fire, but he kept them quiet. You could see all their frustration.
3. Recruiting was atrocious. Offered $$ based on marks, not on character, drive, personality, leadership, etc. Did not know some recruits names until he looked at the name tags on the visit. Poor people skills, scattered thought streams. Made stuff up. Not obsessed with recruiting like Butch Jones. Did not do his homework, tried to "wing it".
4. Spent too much time with pro athletes while UT sinks.
5. Cannot be understood on telephone by parents, recruits, or athletes. Mumbles and speaks quietly.
6. No personal investment in his athletes. Did not build relationships with us on a personal level outside of his event group. Would be at the hotel while some of the top athletes competed. Aloof.
7. Did not understand how to build quality depth across the board.... Build in-state relationships, evaluate talent, evaluate potential, or set them free.
8. Allowed attrition to happen. Should have been in his car within 24 hours of getting the job to re-recruit his top athletes in person over summer. Allowed other coaches to take advantages of his communication failure and cherry pick them.
9. Sabatoged Elliot/Locked. Had a "volunteer" sprints coach lurking around causing havoc on the relationship. Fired his best coach in Norbert. 2007 SEC: 1-2-3 in the 200....and Aries Merritt.
10.Hired assistants with no experience or proven track record because he did not have a network of contacts to draw from outside his comfort zone.
11. Should never have agreed to keep Watts since that situation was poisoned from the get go. Should have stood ground and had him gone right off the bat since he knew that was never gonna work. Too passive/compliant.
12. All his assistants seem to have lost respect for him within 4-6 months of working with him. Common denominator?
12. No recruiting vision...sending questionnaires don't get it
13. No entries in too many events. How can this be?
14. Reactive.....no pro-active with EVERYTHING
15. Not a real "track" coach who could coach any event if they had too. Even a high school coach knows the basics of all the events and can talk "shop".
16. High tops?
17. Did not win the "living room" with recruits.
18. No vision for program identity, at least outwardly.
19. No relationship with alumni/lettermen.
20. No effort to mend the fences
21. Me against the world attitude.
22. Excuse maker
23. Allowed SI department to spin terrible meets in a positive way.
24. Ruined SEA Ray
25. Never saw him rake a pit.
26. Never saw him fill a divot hole
27. Never saw him flip a high jump pit to drain the foam
28. No ownership of his program, his facilities, his track,
his vision, his career.
29. Too good to get his hands dirty.

As I have found out, my loving husband/mentor/coach, will not be retained as the coach at the University of Tennessee. However, we need to find his replacement because I want those student-athletes to be in good hands. Any news?
