A black man who grew up in the racially-charged South in the 60s and 70s admits to having disdain for whites as a youth, but says he does not feel that way now. How is this a double standard?

I'm tired of the double standards but this isn't an example.

Maybe because Sterling is being held accountable for past acts. Sterling was fined for his racist rental practices. But, the NBA used that past as part of their reasoning for banning Sterling for comments made in private.
In the news, Shelley Sterling, one of the four members of the family trust that owns the Clippers, wants to remain an owner along with her two children.
What will the NBA do now? Three of the four owners want to keep the team. The NBA has specifically stated that only Donald Sterling is being punished for past acts and current thoughts.
Stay tuned.
MJ admitted that he hated white people but I think he has evolved, unlike our current president. (Don't argue until you are willing to accept his own words in his books and his willingness to always take the black side in anything racial.)
Regarding MJ, I never was a great fan of his (great athlete, probably supported Obama and a crappy husband) but this thread is a non-issue.
yeah maybe he's a creep. i know his eyes are always bloodshot, he's an out of control gambler, he cheats on his wife (ex-wife) and he kind of sucks at baseball but his ego made him pursue that career anyway. and apparently a bit of a racist. whoops, yup he suckss like so many other humans
that said, sterling is a pathetic excuse for a human and all slum lords should be sent away to a prison camp. much worse than jordan
Obama said that his grandmother was 'a typical white person.'
A black man that grew up in the south before the 80's that did not
hate white people did not have a soul.No way a black person
can grow up during that time with all the virulent and violent white
racism and not develop intense dislike for whites.
Is that why black athletes can use the N-word against each other in locker rooms? That is still common today, so racism will never end until that type of nonsense ends.

Is that unfair? Do you think the black men get an easy ride thru life in this country because they're allowed to drop the N-bomb? Do you feel like you've been dealt a harsher set of cards in this life because you're not allowed to use the N word? Imagine where you might have got to in life had you not been so unreasonably restricted. Also: do you WANT to use the N word? Is that a real desire of yours, or are just bitching about nothing?

Trouble understanding tenses?
MJ said what all blacks feel. There's no race that hates another more than blacks do whites. Just like Sterling, these racist children like MJ were brought up under the influence of adult racists and it's been handed down from generation to generation.
Yes, there's clearly a double standard and that wont change anytime soon. You wont hear Obama chime in on MJ. Nobody epitomizes double standard more than the liberals and that's the family blacks are in. Will liberals go away and die someday soon? Nope. So just accept that the people you are voting for are feeding the double standard, true intolerant racists!. If you dont like it then stop voting for them. Liberals go where the votes take them. No right or wrong matters, just votes to stay in power is what they covet.
As for Sterling; no owner should be banned from the NBA or other sports team because of something they said during a private conversation. I hope his family retains ownership of the Clippers. That would would be a nice middle finger to the lynch-mob. You know, the real racists.

Paula Deen comes to mind.

So according to your logic, if I'm attacked by a group of black people, I can hate all black people, correct?

Miss history class?
This wasn't just "a group" of people. This was the entire nation that had sentiments deeply entrenched in racism and the oppression of blacks for the previous 300 years.
If you think it was just "a group" of white people mistreating him in the deep south during the civil rights era, you are sadly mistaken.

Yes, you can. In fact, you do, loser.

Wasn't it white people that ended slavery?
Wasn't it white people that fought and died in the wars that freed the slaves?
Wasn't it white people that voted for civil right laws to be passed?
Wasn't it white people that voted for Affirmative Action?
Wasn't slave labor used in all societies, on all continents, throughout history regardless of skin color?
And let's face reality; If MJ came out in public and said he wishes all white people were put into slavery, discriminated against, and hanged at the gallows, nothing would happen to him.
Wasn't it white people that ended slavery?
Yes, like Adam Lanza put an end to the Sandy Hook killing spree. But nobody's calling for him to get a medal of honor.
