Jon Drummond was his coach for part of this time. Hang his tired old drug cheating ass out to dry, would ya please!
Everything I've heard (including from Tyson) is that Drummond is the guy Tyson trusted and set this whole thing up. Either Drummond put Tyson in touch with the Miami doctor who supplied the creme or Drummond actually provided the creme. Testosterone is literally a steroid, and my understanding is this was a DHEA/testosterone creme with the contents clearly labeled on the can.
If Druumond did cause this thing to happen, why is he still Chairman of the Athletes Advisory Committee of USATF?
Are there going to be administrative sanctions against Drummond? If not, why not?
Of course, if Tyson was a Nike athlete, there would be no problem for him entering nationals without a qualifying time.
I like him but this is ridiculous.

A one year ban does seem soft but I don't have a problem with it. There has to be some incentive for the cheats to cooperate. Tyson co-operated it sounds like fully. His ban should be less than 2 years then.
Some other people better get banned from this. If this is just Tyson gets a 1 year ban and everyone who assisted him gets nothing then that is BS.
Really wejo? Incentive for cheats to cooperate? That is a load of BS. There are no excuses and should be no incentives to cooperate. Either cooperate or receive an even longer ban would be great.
I think it should be a lifetime ban right from the start. Screw these guys. He obviously only cares about himself. He just lost 3 silver medals for the other guys.
My understanding is that there is more involved than Drummond and maybe somebody else (Lance Braumann?) causing him to cheat. But there are other athletes that have cheated in this way (with the testosterone creme) and likely with the same "anti-aging" doctor.
Braumann is already an ex-con and just go count the number of athletes he's coached that have tested positive. If they connect him, the result should be the same as for Trevor Graham. And they need to take a look at that certain other coach at Clermont who tested positive for the same thing as Gay.

More likely he's turned informant. Why else would they be hustling him back into competition? He'll be eligible in a month.

What you propose is still an incentive to co-operate.
Lifetime ban or 2 years if you co-operate is an incentive to co-operate.
As of now, the bans are only 2 years. Yes, I think we need to encourage people to co-operate. So that means they have to get less than 2 years. Otherwise, Gay could have said it was all a mistake.
I don't think Shobukhova will give back any money, but if Tyson still want to compete, then the races that paid him appearance fees, etc can say "pay up" or you are not competing.
Drugs are everywhere in track and field. And the users are almost always ahead of the testers.
I've posted this before, but everyone please read it. This is what the late Charlie Francis had to say about drugs in athletics more than a dozen years ago:

did the dope actually slow him down when he started taking it in july 2012?
that's not what usually happens
Did Adidas drop him?
I'm guessing he admitted doping at the Olympics because he knew they would retest those samples in a few years.
Does this one year ban mean he can complete at Rio 2016?
Reward , being honest about lying.
CF is saying,
1) pretty much all top elites dope. True.
2) they always have. True
3) testers aren't interested in actually eradicating dope, because then they'd be out of a job. True.
4) A doping-free sport is impossible. FALSE.
None of his "that's the way it is" crap means a damn thing compared to how it should be. He doesn't seem to realize how offensive doping is to everyone who attained their PR's by natural means.
So basically, he's got a 2 year ban but it's been backdated to the time he admitted first using anything. That's June 2012, so he can now compete from June 2014. What was his incentive to admit to that? He could've toed the party line and took a 2 year ban from mid 2013 to mid-2015, and came back at the 2015 WCs. Is there anything worthy this year to give up an Olympic Silver medal for?
It would also be interesting to trace out all his times by date to see when there was any dips in performance, related to the context of coach changes etc. and see if this June 2012 admission stacks up statistically. I can remember Tyson being very hot in the last year or two so it makes sense now.. but he also had injuries and barely made London 2012. Was that what started it? Not being able to lay low and miss another Olympics?
Why is this news? This news came out a year ago and these are the same conversations as last year.

What was it like when you were competing as an elite athlete?
as usual, travis tygart playing favorites... At least he's making a not so honest career for himself! what a joke!
