The opening leg was a jog fest. 4:11.4 for the frosh Prakel who has a 3:44 pb. Fleet was just cruising at the end. Remember when we used to hear talk about the sub-16?
I think they could have done it today.
Will they try to do it at Hayward?

I think the Ducks can go sub-16. Question is when and where would they get the opportunity to do it. Wish they'd hyped it up and gone for it today.

No they won't. If they had any motivation to go after it they had the perfect opportunity today, but they didn't. Clearly they don't care. Forget about it. -

Yes, they don't care about it, because it is still early season to them, and the big picture, which Coaches J and P focus and plan for is NCAA's.
As they should.
It would be very cool to see them get an op to go for it before Fleet hits Sept.
Maybe a special meet a few weeks after NCAA's like the old fund-raisers they did for Hayward renovation back in the day...
Of course, that'll never happen. -
I agree with A Duck on this one. The Oregon coaches have NCAA's as their priority...not some burn out effort to be the first to go under 16:00. This talk just shows the mindset of some of the fools on LR.

What's the fastest 4x1600 ever?
-
how is sub-16 mythical? That's no faster than two Daniel Komen's in a 2 x 2 mile, and 11 seconds slower than the WR.

I don't understand why Cheserek didn't run a more even paced race and blow by the leader when he came up on him. A sit-and-kick Leg 2 doesn't make sense.

I fully agree with you. They shouldn't care. I'm just stating the harsh truth that some won't accept, that they do not care about going after the "mythical sub-16" and they're not going to try it later this year. If it mattered they'd have tried to get it out of the way today. -
I would like to change the lingo just a bit here.
Should they care? Yes, they should.
Is it a top priority to them at this time? No, it is not.
Anytime a record looks soft to you and you think you can take it down, then take it down. Going after records is what keeps the sport progressing and is a tool athletes use in the pursuit of excellence.
I like the idea of setting something up at Hayward after the season. -
If Dunbar,Elkhaim or Stinson ran instead of Prakel they broke 16 easy not sure why Oregon didn't run it's A -TEAM BUT USED 3 OF IT'S 4 BEST MILE RUNNERS wtf :(

because he's probably dumb, like most runners? -

Agree generally but he didn't run completely stupid.
It would have been bad if he had waited until the last 200 to make a kick. He made his move with 600 to go and nobody else had a chance once he did it. He put Oregon in perfect position to win. Think he ran a 3:56 so it's not like he would have been that much faster had he kept going when he caught the leader. -
Maybe Oregon will run Jenkins, Dunbar, Fleet, Cheserek at the Oregon Twilight Meet in two weeks. It makes sense that they would want to break 16 in front of their loyal home crowd. Normally the weather is near perfect at the Oregon Twilight Meet and it would be a perfect tune up for their Conference championship meet. This possibility could explain why none of these guys (or Elkaim) are planning to run at the Stanford meet this coming weekend. They would have 5 sub 4 guys on hand, and would run the 4 that would give them the best chance.

wait a minute, according to dildodarian and a host of other forum geniuses, oregon over races its runners and burns them out
now the same mensas are criticizing them for not running all out in a meaningless meet at the end of april?
i know most of them are unemployable dorm rats but someone has to call them out
