Maybe there should be an ElliptiH20.
They seem like a silly informercial
there is a reason no one sells them
I've seen quite a few people (20+ people) riding them in different neighborhoods around Portland (which maybe says something, ha). They seem like a great workout and people are always having a blast on them. I've talked to a few of the pros who have them and they use them and like them. I understand why people wouldn't want one (dorky looking, bulky and not exactly cheap), but for those that are open to it, I think they are pretty sweet.

good lord, are you a middle school girl?
No, just someone in an area (probably representative of of most of America) where this would be "weird". If I lived in a highly active place (or somewhere like Portland, OR where weird is acceptable), I might feel fine doing it. It's HUGE- just stating my impression upon seeing it firsthand.

And the real-world implications of them thinking you're weird would be....?
You give the impression nobody thinks running in tights in snow is weird.
Why does hardly anyone race walk? Because it's weird and looks weird, even if it's less impact and potentially better for your joints. Same thing with the ElliptiGO. It's big, heavy, awkward, and you couldn't do it around here in peace without people rubbernecking cause they've never seen one before. Not sure how I'd load it in/on/to my car either.
I am in Southern Caif. too and am starting to see more of them around.
My neighbor has two. I see the husband and wife buzzing about the bike trail every once in a while. And I see another must be somewhat close neighbor ride their eliptogo on the bike trail too. On another bike trail in the city down the road I have seen a couple different people ride them on a bike trail that bikers don't ride too often.

The new video ad "Don't believe hundreds of elite" is a joke. The only reason any of those runners might ride those ridiculous things is for the $$$ and for the video shoot day only. No one rides those things without getting paid.
How are they still in business? I heard they give out more then the actually sell. They only place that has them in store is Performance Bike and they are ready to boot them as well.
Why not just buy an elliptical and stay safe in your house without all the maintenance problems the ElliptiGO comes with.
Maintenance problems? It's not like we're talking about an 80's Range Rover here. If you can't get a handle on something slightly more complicated than a bicycle, perhaps you should stay at home.

They are worse then a bike. They always need readjusting and very impractical to bring with in a car.
As a former competitive runner and someone who has undergone three knee surgeries I use an ElliptiGO the majority of the time now to eliminate the day to day pounding of the roads. In my heyday I don't think I would have tried one but it is has been a great tool for me and it's also a hell of a lot of fun. Nobody's young forever and the miles will catch up to you so never say never.
Why does everyone say "it's a ton of fun?"
I mean, isn't just like a bike in terms of fun? That sounds so fake to me.
I was never an avid cyclist so I can't really compare the ElliptiGO to cycling. Although I'm a cycling fan I never found it comfortable myself. The experience on an ElliptiGO is more comfortable and similar to the running motion. It's also slower than cycling but quicker than running. Almost everyone I know riding a GO is a runner who has had some sort of significant knee or hip problems and can no longer run regularly. So, it's a great option for us. Life comes with compromises as we get older. For me it was ElliptiGO or retirement.

A buddy of mine has one and I've ridden it a lot. It is actually a ton of fun. It's harder effort than a bike, but it's more similar to running... but every ounce of energy you put into equals forward momentum... so it just feels like you're running fast.
Easier than running / harder than a bike.
If exercise isn't fun for you than you probably wouldn't like it.

1. It's actually fun,
2. They're paid ElliptiGO shills.
Take your pick. My guess is a little of both.

Uninformed comments and broad generalizations.
Paid or unpaid elites like it as a fitness tool to supplement their training.
They have gone as far to do independent metabolic testing showing a 33% more effort required than cycling with similar heart rate responses as running.
Cost is similar to good road bike. Maintenance is same as a road bike , maybe less , Ive ridden now for 3 years with no issues.
Bike shops cannot get their head around the ElliptoGo , purest thing I feel.
You can get an incredible workout with the same feel or buzz as a hard run with the pounding on the legs.
99% of the riders have zero affiliation with the company beyond being a customer.
"99% of the riders have zero affiliation with the company beyond being a customer".
I call BS- not one of those athletes have bought that thing. Maybe some got cash and other product. It's the same thing.
ElliptiGO is marketing wrong. Don't go for the professional runners before you have a selling product. No one really cares what Lauren Fleshman, Julie Culley, etc.. are doing.
Maybe go for the physical rehabilitation angle. I have a feeling this thing will be dead in the next 5 years. Has anyone seen the sales of this thing? yikes, yikes, yikes is all I can say.
