My first marathon is in less than 3 weeks. I'm excited, but also actually not completely looking forward to finishing the marathon because I've been enjoying the training and don't want to take much time off. I run 7 days a week, and while I know a lot of people take 2-3 days off at the least, I'm wondering, if I feel alright, is it okay to run a couple miles?
If not, would it at least be okay to cross-train (cycle, elliptical, etc.)? If so, how much can I do?
Also, how do I ease back into higher mileage after a marathon? I've been averaging 50-55 mpw during training, peaking at 60 mpw, and this summer I want to stay consistent around 50 mpw as well, but I don't want to do too much too soon after the marathon and risk hurting myself.
One last question--right now, I just do bodyweight exercises (squats, push-ups, lunges) but I'm going to start with more strength training with actual weights after the marathon. However, I'm not sure when it's okay to start strength training after the marathon. Should I give it a week and then start? 2 weeks?
