I thought Ventolin was the Letsrun.com computer.

Yeah, for $249 I ended up with a Chromebook. Had it a year now, love love love it. Handed my Win7 laptop over to my wife. Good riddance!
I recently purchased a chromebook for my trip to Worlds as I needed something with a long battery life and normally long batteries come in the 1k+ computers.
I love the portability and battery life of the chromebook - it's like one of those netbooks from 5 years ago - but don't like the chromebook for 3 reasons however:
1) I hate how there is no right click on the mouse pad.
2) No firefox. The homepage of LetsRun.com must be done in firefox. Don't ask me why, but our WP setup won't work in chrome.
3) No Ethernet port - not a huge deal but the wifi for press wasn't actually working in Poland (but I created a wifi hotspot from a wired computer as a workaround)
With Microsoft dropping the price of Windows $8.1 to $15 for devices selling for less than $250, do you think we'll soon see a chromebook equivalent soon with windows on it?
People bought up netbooks a few years ago like hotecakes. i know ipad and what not have replaced them for many people but nothing beats a keyboard. I have an ipad mini w keyboard and don't want to use that.
I actually use a mouse with my Chromebook most of the time. It's an old cheapo mouse. Works fine, just plug into USB port. I keep it handy if I'm at a desk, or even on the couch.
I hate Firefox, so I can't comment on that.
If you search Google Groups, it appears many people have successfully used usb-ethernet dongles. I don't have one, haven't tried it myself. Could be handy to have one in the travel bag, in a pinch.
I'm not sure cheap Windows 8.1 is the answer. Still get viruses? All the security issues with MS software? What's the boot time? Etc..
PS. Here is my official letsrun computer. I also bought a toshiba. I feel like a got a better deal than weldon as i got mine with 8gb ram in december of 2012 for $459. I did drop it about a month later so there is a screen issue (it works but looks a bit weird when not plugged into my external monitor).
Interesting. I do the exact same thing. I have a $399 PC with same specs and am slightly abusive to it. I had a $800 unit stolen out of my truck, with deductable, I was out $1300. Bought the $400 unit and am out now $1700 for a $400 computer. This unit does everything I need.
But I baby my 15.5" 2012 Macbook Pro because I use it for quick editing of videos, it is the bee's knees. Don't travel as much with it....a little.

It does look like a good deal if its got 8gb of RAM but I don't think it's better if people can't actually buy it.
I feel good about my deal as no one has linked to a better computer than the one I found.
