Not when critisicm is what you are criticizing.

Hardloper,
I think for a 1500m specialist a solid 3K does show fitness.
I don't think anyone is arguing he had a shot at winning, I think people are frustrated he did not put himself in position for a higher finish. He ran defensively and without purpose.
He does have a history of spacing out-didn't he say he miscounted laps in his 3:52?
Clearly Leer planned his doping regimen to peak for Milrose and USATF Champs that's why he's a little flat here. Don't worry, in the Summer of 2015 I'm sure he'll plan the doping schedule out to peak for Outdoor Worlds.

He lost because of fitness, not tactics.
You've never actually raced, have you?
Leer was absolutely FLYING the last 100m - If he was in Willis's position he might have medaled
He purposely "blasted the last 150" but only picked up 2 spots? No.
From jetlag or whatever, he just didn't have it today. He wasn't just hanging out in last, he was losing contact with the pack at times.

You're missing the point. 7:42 is not a solid 3k time. It's the event adjacent to the 1500.

The one where he miscounted laps he still outkicked Willis and Lalang for the win. Doesn't that show that bad tactics do not cost very much, given that it didn't matter?
I don't see him finishing much higher than he did, no matter what. I will have to wait for the video to see just how great his kick was. I am sure it was much slower than the 38-mid 300 that Souleiman closed in anyways.

Some of the worst users on LetsRun are the ones who aren't even good at running, but somehow after every race they could have won the race with their expert tactics.
So fire all restaurant critics, movie reviewers, baseball, football, basketball writers, beat reporters, sports columnists, political opinion makers, talk show hosts (whether it's sports, politics, entertainment), school boards (hey they're not teachers!) and anyone else that forms opinions on topics outsource their profession.
Ok then.
Not to mention all those f*cking coaches who think they know better than the athletes. How the hell can anyone have such delusions of grandeur that he thinks he can coach Mo Farah, the best runner in the world?

Thinking that Farah is the best runner in the world is a much bigger delusion.
Why ya giving Willy boy such a hard time? At ;east he started the race, unlike the USA outdoor 5000 champs. Compared to that his positioning was much better.
Will Leer has a history of not being in good enough position to give him a chance to succeed when the real race starts. Then he puts on a blistering show of speed only to come up short of meddling, making a team, winning the race - choose your scenario.
I would argue that Leer should have WON the 2014 USA indoor championships but Lomong ran a smarter race. Leer seems to have talent but he doesn't seem to learn and he seems to be content to be just behind the truly top flight professionals.
Calling him stupid may be harsh. He "lacks confidence" may be the kinder way of putting it.

Will Leer ran as stupid as you possibly can. You cannot make up 2 seconds over 200m in a race of this calibre. you need to be near the front. He blasted the last 150m to go from last to 3rd last.
Will Leer did not run as stupid(ly) as I possibly can. But you are right that I cannot make up 2 seconds over 200m in a race of this calibere. (sp)
I am told that Will Will orchestrate a walk-off in support of rampant DQ's by the WC officials for minor infractions that are offensive to him and he seeks address before a world tribunal.
His race was fine, better tactics would have saved him maybe 1 spot, 2 at best.
Souleiman is better at 3k and better at 800 atm. Same with Wote and Iguider is the defending champ and ALWAYS one of the top dogs in 1500m championship races. No chance to medal here.
Maybe this was a good learning experience for Leer. He has relied on his kick perhaps a bit too much, given he doesn't exactly have a world-class 800m to his name. This wasn't a superfast race, and being at the back didn't allow him to get into a good position to use his kick (that you might be able to do outdoors), not that he should have medalled in this field, but he might have been closer (or fallen, who knows). I sometimes think the seemingly American attitude that this is a completely non-contact sport hurts some athletes, as others will jostle (if they can get away with it). Saw that with Moser who really didn't deal with the jostling very well.
Great run by the winner, he simply refused to let anyone else lead, and even Hutchings got it wrong. With no wind, and confidence in his speed (good 800m man), it was tactically brilliant and gutsy.
I'm looking forward to the Flotrack video with Will explaining in detail each DQ at the WC and how this is a disgrace to the sport.
Why does this remind me of the rants by the snowboarders at Sochi?
How dare you. yes, he should have made a move earlier but 6th is still osum for an american
Bad positioning is all. Leer is the man, looking forward to seeing him outdoors and work on his tactics at an international level
