I'll give you this -- a few weeks ago, it would have seemed at least a somewhat inconsistent with the facts. Now, however, with the events of USA Nationals in the books, it's not only not surprising that Salazar used the label "mortal enemy," it fits seamlessly into the greater, ugly picture.

As others have noted, Schumacher is the "reclusive" coach who hides from camera's, media, and interviews.

I don't agree with this. A coach who acts like a maniac when things don't go his way is NOT good for the sport. Sports are supposed to be competitive but it shouldn't get to the point where unethical behavior is going on (yelling/screaming, DQ-ing athletes for own personal gain, etc.)

Here's a rule of thumb, A Duck: would you want your child/grandchildren to look up to Salazar and his behavior at USA indoors? If yes, then he's good for the sport. If not, then he's not good for the sport. And I think the latter is true.

But for real? Are we really going to dive into this on yet another thread?

Listen. I know that Alberto isn't everyone's favorite flavor anymore, mostly because he got left out in the sun and spoiled. But don't we hate him for reasons other than how he acted at nationals? His conduct was clearly very un-becoming as a coach of his stature. But I dislike salazar purely because of his 'win at all costs, use every advantage, if it's not illegal it's legal' attitude. And his use of clout to get what he wants. Who's really competing here? Alberto, or his athletes? I feel like he's that parent who's trying to live through their kids.

Consequently, not to choose a side, I really like the Schumacher boys. Mainly because I grew up and competed while Derrick and Jager were in high schools only 45min away from me. I like them, (Derrick mostly) because they were once like me, and through their hard work, they got better. That's my dream. To be a world-class athlete. And they are proof that it can happen, if I try my best and work my hardest.

But do I hate Salazar? Do I want to cut him up into tiny pieces, sew him back together, and feed him to piranhas? No!

At the same time, I'm not about to kiss the ground that shumacher is walking over. Having this much petty, base hatred for people isn't a good look.

There are dozens of ways that he could have meant it, some as a joke, some mockingly, some ironically, whatever, but if the whole email were released, we would see it for the innocuous comment that it is.

It is shoddy journalism to print the "mortal enemy" quote without providing context.

I will also support A Duck's contention that the competition between the two groups is good for the sport. That being said, I would never think to offer a defense for Mr. Salazar's recent meet behavior.

Okay, try this: Imagine a context in which Alberto Salazar might have written that in a non-malicious way, keeping in mind his very clear feelings about Jerry Schumacher, as evidenced by his behavior toward Schumacher at the USA Nationals.

Only a mentally deficient person would even try to conceive of a context in which it was meant at all benignly or said in a joking way.

Salazar is not only a louse but a moron for not realizing that the recipient of that e-mail would eventually find reason to disseminate its contents. He's like the high-school teacher who manages to convince herself that if she writes love notes to one of her students and then bangs him, he really won't tell anyone, least of all his classmates.

And no, I was referring to my previous POSTS, the ones containing a great many specifics about this ramshackle, despicable twat on two legs that goes by AlSal and slithers around at top-level track meets, leaving snail-trails and stray pubes and queefing angrily at anything in its path while making ugly sucking sounds and stinking like the dumpster outside a seafood fast-food joint on a sultry summer day.
