How good of a race did Sell and Verran have?
Great race by Circus Midget Matt McInnes for 12th. This guy works his ass off while doing his residency and trains in his spare time. He doesnt belong to an "elite" team and doesnt live surrounded by high level runners training at altitude, just some dude out hammering everyday after putting in 12 hour days at the hospital. Solid little guy and a great result for him! TS
I ran the race this morning, the weather was great. The only thing I heard any complaints about was that part of the course had some mud (maybe a quarter inch) because of all the rain we have had. I thought it was cool, it was like an urban XC course.
Looked like the Hanson's Sell and Verran ran a controlled team effort at a bit sub-marathon goal pace. Great race, guys!
the hansons boys did pretty much the same thing back in january at the disney half building up to the trials. except then they were back at 1:05:40. nice show by them. looks like they're getting ready to put down some good times in chicago.
I had mo idea Spence had come this far back as a master. I'm impressed.
Also, Khannouchi just missed the American Record of 1:00:55 by Mark Curp. Anyone have any stories about where and how Curp ran sub-61 and how'd it go? Also, what has Todd Williams run for the Half?
Yeah Spence is rockin'. He's a natural and a class act.
Curp's 60:55 was done in Phily, I forget the year, but it was in about '81 or '84. TWill ran a 1:00:27, but in Japan on a point to point, or possibly even downhill p to p course, so wasn't accepted as a an AR. Curp was in awesome shape, and could have been on the Olympic team once or twice, but for cracking a bone (ankle?) less than a month before the trials, while hammering a long run and stepping on a rock, the other time breaking a toe? Hard worker like Spence,

bad race today. it's good i don't own a gun. MOTHERFUCKER.
The fellas were supposed to run 5 minute pace (marathon pace in Chicago) for the first 10 miles and then let it roll for the last 5k. They went through 10 at 49:30 and then dropped a 14:30 last 5k. Also Luke ran well 1:06:15 in preparation for Chicago. Look for about a 2:16 debut. All races during our marathon training are done without tapering. The boys ran 18 yesterday.
That's good to hear. Sounds like they really ripped it up. I'm hoping both Clint and Sell rip a sub 2:12 in Chicago!
Results listed fail to go deep enough to include the M50 winner: Gary Fanelli in 1:15:22 (5:45 a mile). Thanks to David Monti for help.
What is the drop from start to finish on this course? Damn usa-ldr site is down.
it's a loop course with the start and finish about 1km apart. if there is a drop at all it is minimal. i have run the race many times and i don't think course elevation is a factor. it is very flat with slight upgrades at 3/4 mile and just before mile 8.
is is really that hard for an agent to put down the athlete's address, not their own? I don't understand why they put their address and not the athletes. so do they sign the waiver for the athlete, as well?
Flat, flat, flat...
Uphill near the 12 mile mark.
