I know a bit about the school. What program are you looking into? I was close to applying for ex. phys. masters, but ended up down the road at UNCG. I'd be willing to answer anything I could.
I am exercise physiology as well. I was just wondering about the school, what the students are like and the area mainly. I would like to hear any advice you have. Thank you very much, I appreciate the help.
It's my home town..and my husband went to Wake. Email any questions you have...
Blake,
Is your husband doing a tempo run on that new treadmill right now?
Kyle
Their program focuses on cardiac rehab. They have a good lab there and from what I understand they accept 7 students a year. You will get an $8,500 stipend and free tuition. You are required to stay that summer but they pay you about $10 an hour to do cardiac rehab. The city is small but nice and the school is about 4-5,000 students. Seems like an upper-middle class type of school. When I went and talked to the people in the program they were all really nice and helpful. There are a lot of hospitals in the area that provide good opportunity for jobs and internships. I was more interested in the research and performance side of ex phys, so I didn't end up applying there. If cardiac rehab is what you want though, its a very good program.
What kind of jobs can you get as an exersise phys.? wondering because I'm thinking of going into it but I don't want to if I can't make a decent living.
You can get a lot of jobs. Cardiac rehab, research, teaching, exercise specialist, etc. Companies often hire ex.physiologists. Gatorade employs some in their lab that are responsible for testing the product. The olympic training facilities employ them to exercise test the athletes and carry out research. You could also do simpler things such as personal training and fitness leadership. Check out the American College of Sports Medicine website, it might give you some more ideas of what you can do with the degree. www.acsm.org
I am transferring to UNC Greensboro for next semester though I have never been there before. Any information you could tell me would be cool. where did you end up going to grad school?
Kyle, he'd better be running on that tmill if he's going to help us at H2C!
Fitguy, I got my Master's from Wake in 1995 (ex. Phys) and stayed on to work there 4 more years, so know the system pretty well. I run and race quite a bit also, so drop me a line if you have any questions. E-mail address is located at

he better stay away from those Krispy Kreme's too. Right now I think you're going to have to give him the downhill segments. ;-)
he and your brother are working on getting faster than their wives. I figure your bro's been hanging aroung with you too much because he's injured again. ;-)
See you Sunday night at the Bubsters?
Keith,
I have stopped talking to trash to my bro because his injuries have prevented him from racing...I have turned my trash talking to Betsy as she appears to be fit enough to run fast.... Brant always wants Miller High Life("Champagne of Beers") if he wins our bets, I don't know what Betsy might want.
Hope all is well in Winston....We're moving to Windermere, FL(Orlando) at Christmas time.
Kyle
you might want to get in touch with a guy named Shlonghurts...he is a running legend in those parts.
10 time Plantar's Peanuts 5k champ. he was running before running was cool.
Wake is a great place. If you go there as an undergrad you are most likely a sheltered little ninny. However, if you go there for grad school you are most likely mature, well-rounded, have a great kick and are popular with all the ladies.
Miller High Life huh? At least he's a cheap date. I thought those high finance types would want at least some Michelob.
In any case I know better than to trash talk with Betsy, she'd kick me ass. I need to keep my trash talking to the infirm like you and bro where I have a chance. ;-) I'll get Brant a copy of the H2C video I took to rehab him for next August.

P.S. Get yourself mouse ears to train in and have a Merry Christmas yourself.
Marathoner,
While serving time in Folsom Prison, I've checked out your website at
. Very cool indeed! That "Machine" guys looks tough. Did he used to participate in Ultimate Fighting?

Yup, back when he was taller and had hair.
Hamilton Harrier,
Don't know if I can tell you anything that would be cool. I can tell you that if you do end up coming to UNCG next semester, I will be one of your coaches. I'm the assistant for cross and track.
Hamilton Harrier I go to UNCGB, what kinda times do you run? Where are you transferring from and if you don't mind me asking why? Either way I look forward to meeting you. I am a sprinter on the team. I really like it here, I think its a great place for college.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
