There is no legit government in Ukraine right now. It's all in disarray. Crimea wants to be part of Russia so break the country in two peacefully.
Not really a US concern.

I say just let Russia and Ukraine go at it over the Crimea. The Crimea is a very complex region, was part of Ukraine till a couple of days ago but there were mostly Russian speaking people there.
However, that being said, I do think the United States should keep their eye on Russia making sure they don't make a habit of re-annexing a bunch of ex-Soviet states. That could lead to an very destabilizing situation and one that would probably leave Western Europe to the mercy of a much stronger Russia.
Nothin'. They ain't 'merican anyhow. USA USA USA!!!!!!!!
China, Russia, Japan, and the US have to sign a terrestial and space non-aggression pact with 100% sunshine provisions
1) fully opening to public internet access, computer records, intel, state dept, NSA, military lab, military capabilities, foreign bases, proxy regimes, and plans
2) with UN 100% oversight
3) ending occupations and hegemony, ending military campaigns, ending covert support of regimes

Let's not forget the REA. Rules of engagement say our kids cannot shoot at another unless they are fired upon first. Now how can anyone win a war like that? Childs play. Our kids are left for mercy while Obama parties?
I would call in Joe Biden to say something funny and then I would ask John Kerry to "WARN RUSSIA AGAINST STRONG SANCTIONS"! OR ELSE!.... Then I would go golfing and take a vacation to Hawaii without Michele and the kids.
I would immediately resign so someone competent could deal with Putin. Hate to be blunt but it is true.
Hit Putin with a drone!
So pretty much every single foreign policy expert is "clearly not paying attention?" Because although you cut out the part of my quote where I mentioned what exactly I was relatively ignorant to (I don't have the information or experience Obama and his advisors have), I do spend a ton of time reading the news and am definitely way more informed than your average American, handle nonwithstanding.
One action that the vast majority of experts I've read agree we take is getting Georgia into NATO, simply because one of the last things that Putin wants is...a strong Georgia. No, there are no good options, but some options are less bad than others.
Silly. The Ukraine situation isn't some action movie tough guy face off. Russia has strategic, economic and cultural ties to the region. They moved in for those reasons. Obama, Bush, Reagan, Clinton, Putin or Gorbahev - it doesn't make any difference. Any Russian leader would quickly come to the realization the US and Europe are not going to go to war over a divided Ukraine.
Let Russia have Ukraine. All of it. In truth there is nothing that we can realistically do to stop that happening anyway if that is what Russia chooses to do.
The fact is that today's world is a whole lot different than the world of 100 - 200 years ago. Russia is rebuilding an empire? So what? Do you seriously think that makes them stronger? That this will ultimately pose a threat to the US?
This will make Russia weaker in the long run. Satellite states that don't really want to be satellite states just soak up resources, money and blood. Have at it Russia, keep digging that hole!
Now it is true that I feel sorry for the Ukrainians. But we aren't going to war over this. Slap on some sanctions, isolate Russia diplomatically...but at the end of the day it will be up to the Ukrainians to make the Russians regret this move.

It took an extreme bad ass to invade Greneda.
(apologies if this has already been said)
I don't give a crud about ukraine. We arent the worlds problem solver, esp problems that are insignificant to us but can only be solved at huge costs to us.
NEXT.
I'd commandeer that Russian spy ship in Cuba.
Then I'd go out for pancakes.
I'm a bit surprised Russia is so willing to push their luck for Crimea. Obviously the peninsula has a majority ethnic Russian population, but I am unsure how much of that population would support Balkanization of Ukraine. There is still a large population of ethnic Ukranians and Tatars in Crimea that would would likely rebel. Crimea itself is dependent on "mainland" Ukraine for survival-water, food, electricity. There is a reason the USSR gave it back to Ukraine in the first place. I am not entirely sure what Putin's motives are in this case.
Cnn reports Ukraine issued ultimatum. Crazy if true....Apparently Russia is yearning to kill off half it's male population again.

I am simply waiting for some Ukrainian (or Russian with a Ukrainian uniform) to fire the first shot. Then I will take over all of Ukraine.
It is really very simple. Why are you Americans so dense?
Does anyone else find it amusing that the Russian troops are wearing uniforms without any Russian identifying markings? Do they think that folks don't know who they are?
