I would be surprised but not shocked if Al Sal takes a leave of some sort after Poland - he seems to have become unhinged this weekend.
Sort of a sociopathic break.

Actually when watching the race I did see two things.
Lomong saw Rupp trying to pass and drifted wide to push him out /keep him from passing.
Hill cut in front of Rupp breaking his stride.
Not major events but they did happen. I would say perfectly fine from a competition standpoint. A bit iffier for them all being nike athletes.
Maybe it was the straw that broke the camel's back. I mean Hill and Lomong had not chance of beating Rupp so why all the aggressive behavior...

Salazar better be careful. Two of his charges are young women, Cain and Hasay, and while they seem to be remarkably mature and talented young women, they are both at the age where input from parents still matters. I would be concerned about trusting my kid's livelihood to a guy without proper perspective, examples of which seem to abound in a single weekend. Screaming at another athlete after a tough race for no apparent reason is behavior that if off the rails.
Very true. An old adage of mine is this: when dating someone early on, watch how he or she treats the waiter or waitress. Because in a few months (if the relationship lasts) that is how he or she will be treating you. AlSal lashed out at competing athletes/officials here but in the future you can expect (if he has not already - though it seems he already has) be lashing out at his own athletes.
Man, I like Lomong. Al needs to chill out.

Saw the same thing and agree. However, Salazar still over reacted and is a massive idiot.

Isn't this called racing? Where does it say no gamesmanship or strategy is involved?
Maybe everyone should decide if they want to race, or run time trials.
If a runner can't handle a little bumping in a crowd, maybe that runner should give distance running and become a sprinter.
I'd love to see Bekele do the same to Rupp and see if Salazar went after Bekele.
Salazar seems to be going the way of an over protective soccer mom.

They haven't put the 3000m up yet.

I never said it was a major thing but I did notice it at the time. I also agree Salazar overreacted.
It also reminded me of my highschool running days, when some of the folks that weren't in contention would be some of the more aggressive asshats during the race.
I actually think it was good practice for Rupp to have to deal with it, You watch Lagat always being in the right position, relaxed, and then see Rupp wasting too much energy on positioning...
Have an NOP athlete do what Bumbi did, then GG in the 3k and you have a DQ that STAYS and a sporting community that is up in arms about how unclassy and unprofessional.

Same here. No excusing what Salazar did last weekend, but I also wondered if on-going tension led to his massive blow-up.
I, personally, don't think Lomong or Hill intentionally tried to impede or be rough with Rupp, but Salazar's vision was already clouded by the women's 3k and his view that Hasay had been unfairly tripped.
BTW, I don't think it would be unreasonable for either Hill or Lomong to beat Rupp on a given day, including last Saturday. I like Rupp, but he's not unbeatable and doesn't have the devastating finish of Lagat. Going into USAs, I viewed it as 3-man race between Lagat, Rupp, and Hill. And had Lomong looked stronger in his prior races, I'd would have looked it as a 4-man race for the top 2 spots.
I hope the other running companies enjoy my money. No more for Nike until they get rid of AL SAL. This is embarashing for our sport

I wonder how good Rupp would be if he quit worrying about all the crap, and just went out there and ran.
Don't you think this sideshow has to be taking a toll on Rupp, and especially Hasay?
They are on such a fine line, all of this drama will become a problem, if it hasn't already.

Then Lomong acting all innocent.
He's trying to cover his butt by blaming Salazar.

You're right, LL did the same as Hasay when GG went to pass, i.e. drifted out, either intentionally or not, who knows, but that's racing.

Lopez Lomong probably understands English better than you do. I'm sure he'd get your name right.
I had the pleasure of watching him compete when he was at Tully High School. I couldn't pick a better representative for our country.
Did Salazar mistake lomong for hill?
Not that I think hill purposely cut off Rupp as he was making his move at the same time.
Lomong may have swung a little wide but guess what that's racing. Lomong could have very well have made the team as we saw him dominate that last 100 in the 1500.
Salazar needs to chill the hell out and rupp can handle himself.

Lomong and Ryan Hill are often confused as twins.
Hill is actually from a different Sudanese tribe.
