Marathon and Cross-Country maybe. They have won the club cross meet 3 years in a row. I think they run too much mileage to be good on the track.

i think its great that more and more posters are voiceing thier annoyance of the "trollS" ...after all why should a person's performance affect any one emotionally to where they ridicule another? did someone bet on this race and lose money? is someone pissed because some of these guys have an elite training group and the poster feels rejected and therefore feels the athletes have to have pbs or wins each time out? ( they would accuse of epo if that was the case anyway right? ) nope i don't understand it...so please enlighten me as to why menafee ( who i felt did himself proud in trials) is subject of this bashing ...and the hansens ...i would say a few ran past thier expiration date but why does it become such a big fooking deal ?!
I totally agree that it is different surfaces and that the road is way slower. How much would you say based on Broe? Now do the math for Menefee and Lane? What about Teddy. does he fit into the equation correctly?
Once you finish the homework you may think a little clearer.
14:36 for Brian Pope, 41 years old

didn't realize that everytime someone races they have to meet or surpass their pr. i'd get into rather obvious reasons for the time differences but i have a feeling you're one of these people on whom rationality is lost.

Interesting...also saw that Andrew Begley finished 30th and is calling Albuquerque home as well. Please tell me he isn't hanging with Eddy and Teddy.
it is quite clear that Lane was, once again, "gagged" by the maestro of the farm debacle. but, phil will be sending another monthly paycheck his way come 10/1.
Teddy has left ALBQ for Fayetville. Probably why he is running so well.
See Hansons Message board at
. Meneffee has left the program and is going to law school.
For you idiots who talk trash about Hansons, the guy finished 5TH AT THE TRIALS!!! He came from no where to do this under the Hansons guidance. I'm not understanding your point. Also, Briney did the same thing. Verran and Sell have also improved greatly. The Hansons are awesome in my book.
Menefee probably would have made the team if he had been part of the Farm Team. As it turns out we only sent 2 athletes in the 5k and only one is part of a training group (Riley). Mark probably left because the Hansons wanted him to run an Ultra or something.

yea because it's real important to be running fast at the begging of september for guys whose seasons aren't for many months...Broe's still running well because his season started later as he was coming off an injury...these other guys have already wound down and shouldn't be running fast right now. It's not about winning race money in a meaningless Road 5k championship when XC season is 6 months away and the real track season is 9 months away from even starting.

If Mark was smart, he wouldn't have gone to the Hansons in the first place....
The only reason he ran fast this track season was because of his own talent, not the training by the Brothers Hanson.
I guess time will tell. We have seen what he produced while with the Hanson group and now we will see what he produces on his own. The next few months will be a result of what he gained with the Hansons. Let us check back in 2 or 3 years and then make the call. I remember people saying that Jim Jursevick (sp?) would do just fine on his own as well. I never hear his name mentioned in any major road race, cross-country race or track event. I believe that he was either 5th or 6th in the 10k in 2000.
A number of (faster) runners are listed with "Under USATF age-group [or OPEN] guidelines." What does that mean?
if he is indeed going to law school then running probably won't be his main focus. you can't make the comparison 2-3 years from now if he isn't attempting to train at the same level in the first place. everyone has their priorities in life.
A couple of interesting results:
89 5/333 M4049 16:35 5:21 16:34.9* DAN DILLON 47 M 477 NEW LONDON CT
AND
104 14/673 F0139 17:13 5:33 17:11.9 CHERI KENAH 33 F 39 BOSTON MA (Is this Cheri's first race since the birth of her twins???)
Freihofer's 5K on JUne 5 was Cheri Kenah's first race after the twins were born.
My bet is Osgood is some schlep rock who's still pissed that Menefee punked him in either
a) Kansas 4A High School Championship
b) Some Juco meet when he was at Hutch CC
c) all of the above
I wouldn't go and say that Mark punked him at any meet while he ran at Kansas, because my guess is Osgood never made it that far.
Oh, and by the way, I'm one of his former teammates sticking up for him. That man's got bigger balls than most people on this board.
Why do so many of the Kenyan runners in the results "reside" in Westchester, PA?

Yeah it was tough for Frank Shorter to pull off both too. Todays athletes are always looking for an excuse to fail instead of an excuse to succeed. You are already expecting Mark to fail 2-3 years down the road and have even set up his excuse for him. The most pathetic thing is that you are probably right.
balancing law school and running isn't particularly difficult. obviously moreso than undergrad or most graduate programs, but it's not like law school takes up all of your waking hours. if he wants to run, he should easily be able to accomplish that.
