When the #1 golfer in the world wins a major it is NEVER "out of the blue".

This is pretty much how I feel.
Tiger right now is not the Tiger of 97-08. He is "just" a really good golfer.
There is a good chance he will snag another major or two, as he is still a player good for multiple wins on tour a year, and generally those players do pick off a major or two in a career.
I really like the point people make when they remind you that factoring out Tiger, Phil has the most majors of any modern player at 4; and that is considered one hell of a career. Tiger, at advancing age, has to exceed Phil's career to break Jack's record...and I think that is improbably at best unless he truly rediscovers himself, but he has clearly lost the mojo or whatever you want to call it of his prime.
Bottom line is I would be surprised if he didn't win a single major, but I'd also be pretty surprised if he does end up getting Jack's record.

So, you are suggesting that the fact that he has not won a major in 5 years somehow makes it more likely that he will win one (or more) in the future?
No, I'm just suggesting it would make a strange career arc.

...
Tiger after 2008 equivalent to Tyson after Douglas. He is easily beatable by the best now and the competition keeps getting better.
he won the Players Champs last year
the PGA Tour have tried for a long time to get this regarded as a Major, which so far, it isn't
however, look at women's game : they also had 4 majors - kraft/lpga/US Open/British Open, but now the evian has been given Major status from last year
if the women can increase Majors, the men can do & most fans regard the Players as a major in all but name
if you follow the history of the game, the masters shoud never have been a major, as bobby jones was hoping it might one day end up on US Open roster, but it was rejected by USGA as augusta was deemed too hot to play in in june
he ended up going his own way & building up that invite tournament, but a separate "major" was never in his or anyone else's plans
as for USPGA : that was a matchplay tourney for long time which no one regarded as a major
the story is that arnie palmer on a 'plane flight to british open in early '60s came up with idea of the majors & picked the current 4 !!!

He is also the #1 golfer in the world.
I believe in 2012 or 2013 Tiger won 5 or 6 fairly prestigious PGA events.....(although not the 84 Lumber Open).
He has at least 2 more majors in him IMHO....he is still "knocking on the day".
Tiger hasn't won a major since the PGA started drug testing

He is washed up
Nonsense. He won 5 events last year so he is not washed up. Everybody is trying every week, the fields are close but obviously he still has something extra to win 5 times. When a .400 batter hits .330 is he washed up?
He will win a major this year, likely the Masters. I look forward to reviving this thread and the other one saying the same thing.
Tiger Woods will win all four majors this year.

When he hasn't won a major in almost six years, it is. Heck, Phil won the major he "wasn't supposed to win" last year at The Open Championship at the ripe young age of 43 and was in the hunt at the US Open. I don't think Tiger was stalking the leaderboard late at any major last year, and, frankly, I can't remember the last time he was.
However, to count him out and done is silly. The skills don't just go away. I would say the odds of him NOT wining another major are extremely low unless he just up and walks away from the game. Jack won his last major at age 46.
Mickelson now has 5 Majors with his win at the British Open last year. But I agree with your point...I don't see Tiger winning more than 2 additional majors for the remainder of his career

muirfield was there for the taking in the last round for any elite aggressive guy & phil was only one who attacked it
the others just wanted to punt it around & hope the major fell into their lap - especially westwood who led by 2 at start
this wasn't the major phil wasn't supposed to win as he probably shouda won it in '04, & in '11 in true links conditions he came from 5 back at start of last round to tie for lead entering back nine but the effort caught up & made 3 bogeys to lose by 3
if any major wasn't suited to his game, it's the USOpen & he has been runner-up 5 times ( & shouda won it in '99/'04/'13) !!!
Ventolin, Winged Foot in 2006 was the one Phil "should've" won. He gave it away. Only hit two fairways all day off the tee.

He said himself, he never thought he would win The (British) Open. His game is not suited for the conditions. With six second place victories, including two to Tiger, it's hard to say the US Open is not tailor-made for him.
Sorry, including one to Tiger..

forgot winged foot
make that 4 USOpens he shouda won

that's a lot of BS to deflect pressure
since millenium, i'd reckon 2 - 2.5 outta every 4 opens has not had had any true links conditions for all 4 rounds, maybe they get the cold, windy conditions for 1 - 1.5 rounds
phil had a shot at the win 2 - 2.5 outta every 4y providing he played a sensible conservative round for the 1 - 1.5 he had to
the british open open was always within his remit with his huge power
as for USOpen, his power again has made him a close contender, even battling the rough
winged foot was thought virtually unplayable, but he still shouda won it even when he got in the rough
He'll win one in 2017, maybe 2. Best thing that ever happened to golf.
