Michael Stember (Stanford, USA) supposed ran a mid-46 400 to go with his 3:35.11. And wasn't Jim Ryun reputed to be a mid-46 second 400 runner? (Apologies if someone has already mentioned him.)

Not sure that's true, "Realism." There are plenty of 48-second-ish 400 meter runners -- long sprinters, not people with middle distance strength -- who can't break 11.0 for 100 meters.
