She starts in dead last, absolute dead last, stays patient and works her way to 16th place. Pretty damn impressive, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmbRmsK8XD4&feature=youtu.be&a

What does that have to do with racing like a pro?
They went out in 2:33 for the first 800m. When I saw her in last I remember thinking she looked very composed and was smart to run even effort. Next time I saw her she'd passed 10 girls and after that she was ahead of half the field. Finished 16th.
Smart girl not trying to match the sprint. She's a junior, she'll be back next year.
I have been watching her for years in more local or regional races, and she has always run that way. DFL appearing out of it, even splits while all the other are manically running to the front, then, next thing you know, she is in the lead. Here, obviously, you have higher level of talent, she doesn't appear to have figured out how to win with that tactic, but she can do well, as she did today. We'll see if she tweaks it to get a national level win before she graduates.
Maybe if she started somewhere in the mid-pack or top 1/3, instead of dead last, she'd finish in the top 5. Just saying. I've always raced like this. It's a matter of going out just right and positioning yourself, waiting for the pace to "settle", and keeping your momentum going as you fly past everyone.
The first half mile is downhill, so it wasn't all that fast (field was bunched).
Is she originally Aussie or British? Seems to be an accent there.
