Great, great race. Some elbows, lots of lead changes and an awesome kick.

Agreed. The will to win was strong in those two gents.
What made it much more interesting was that one runner was strong on the uphills and the other was strong on the downhills. That's the reason for a lot of back and forth that you don't normally see.
i think its safe to say the kai wilmot was the true national champion.
Wow wonder what happened to Maton really thought he would win this race easy.
Insta-CLASSIC. ESPN Classic should roll it right now! it wouldn't be a Nat'l championship without quality elbows lol! Great job John Dressel, I was hoping for the 2nd Nat'l champ from a Spokanite in less than a week, I will take 2nd though lol.
5 of the top 7 are juniors too. Fisher might not get a chance to repeat. That was a fantastic race, and next year might be ever better!

The second hill got him. He lost 20 meters on the pack just trying to get up the hill the second time. Seems like his legs were toast after that. Same with Blair Hurlock.
team scores???
High school racing is exciting, and this thing was up there. I'd put the top three races of 2013 in this order -
1) Bekele Half Marathon win vs. Farah and Geb
2) Girls NXN XC Championship with Efraimson's kick
3) Boys FootLocker Championship with Fischer winning the elbow battle
Uhhh, who?Fisher is king.

39th place at FL was a 8:53 2 miler. Great depth! :)
I thik it's safe to say that Grant Fisher is the true national champion team.
I really wish they changed the South course.
There's a reason why that region seemingly has always the most runners who have exceptionally sub-par races... running a flat speedway 5K is a lot different than running a course that's somewhat challenging.

Are you saying the wrong kids are making it to footlocker?
I would agree with that. If the same kids are making it, then a flat course for one race wouldn't make much difference.

How so? Seems like a generalization based on today only.
That was indeed, a GREAT race.
Kudos to the kids for racing tough.
Kudos to Footlocker for staging a great event -- and "broadcasting" it better than NCAA Cross.
We saw an immense amount of talent out there.
I don't think I've ever seen a race so clearly won by a decision to give let the leader go on an uphill and reel him back in on the downhill.
Great battle, but Fischer was so much stronger when it counted.

What a fantastic stretch race!!!! Wow.
Multiple lead changes in the last 400, an elbow or two thrown..In the end, Grant Fischer over John Dressel.
Both of those races has way more drama than your average race. HS racing is so much more interesting than pros as there is more back and forth.
*FISHER. I am not trying to nitpick, but I am hoping that this is a name that we will be seeing a lot in the next decade+. Agreed on the race. Absolutely incredible.
