He's definitely in the top 5 of all the sprinters over the last 10 years. It remains to be seen whether he can kick his career on. He needs to have a spell of dominance before we can start ranking him among the very best.

I won't consider him the best of all time until he races a Zebra and wins. I think it's kind of messed up that we don't allow other species to compete at the Olympics.
A zebra with prosthetic legs.
i dont even think of bolt when the word sprinting comes up. who is he?
I wouldn't consider him in my top 5 until he breaks Ryun's 43:00 world record, and his 1:39 to boot.

Is Usain Bolt one of the best sprinters of his generation?
Nope
If he fails a PED test, that is the final barrier to GOAT status for me...
Current WR holder. Of course he is ONE of the best sprinter of his generation.
duh.

BEN JOHNSON is the greatest sprinter ever! Smashed carl Lewis to pieces and he's still bitter to this day!
In an interview BEN JOHNSON said he could run 9.40 now due to quicker surfaces and he never hit his peak because he failed a drugs test because he got his drink spiked. If you look at his performances yearly he kept on getting quicker year by year if he didn't fail the drugs test, the rest would of been history!
YouTube rome 1987 100m and look at his sprint start! Need I say more he had a 9.4 in him and when he won Seoul 88 he jogged the end.
WHAT A LEGEND! AND HE'S THE MOST HUMBLE PERSON!
For sure. Like many, the older Ben gets the better he used to be.
Someone had to revive this old troll thread, eh... The conspiracy of posts in this thread would not be completely insane if this thread were dated from 2007... lol. This is a self-contained gem of a troll-thread... pure, unadulterated, like a top-security laboratory. 100% pure, uncontaminated troll juice.
Bolt would be the best if only he weren't chicken to face GATLIN who he has admitted would beat him.
But he's pretty good, no argument there.
Bolt, if given the opportunity to race in the Mexico City Olympics in 1968, in the footwear of the day, using the training methods of the times, eating the junk diet of "athletes" of the past, and absent the chest-thumping energy he derives from Tweeting and carousing and so forth, would not have run under 1:54 in the 800 meters.
To even INSINUATE that he's among the best ever -- or ever will be, frankly -- is a brazen disservice to the shining stars of the sport we all love.
