Paying for what you already own...
Paying for what you already own...
Land itself is pretty much worthless. The services and amenities around the land are what give the land its value. So really a tax on real estate is the most sensible way to pay for schools, public utilities, parks, etc.
Own? You don't own anything. You rent it from the state.
fixed if for ya
"is Property Ownership a scam?"
Government is going to get the money required to effectively run a country somehow.
There may well be a better way than property tax but you'd probably just complain about that too.
The scam is where some localities make it unreasonable.
You need the extra incentive of property taxes to make sure the land is being put to its most efficient use... You don't want a landed aristocracy not contributing to society.
It's a lot easier way to run poor citizens out of gentrifying areas than, say, billy clubs.
Probably tax is outright theft of your assets and property.
No more than income taxes being a scam for paying what you've already earned.
you probably hate having your streets plowed, your town's children educated and your garbage collected, too.
you probably wish you just lived in a sh!thole town with no taxes, run by gangs because no one is in charge. while the people in the town over from you are safe and secure with a working police force.
this probably sounds dandy to you, mr. puterschmuter. well i think you should just go ahead and run for mayor. do it! use this as your campaign. then you can create your little sh!thole town that you and neo-con friend have been dreaming about!
heard through the grapevine...that when you sell your house some of profit or percentage goes to obamacare
nice!
Actually I think that is the only tax the founding fathers believed in having. Income taxes on the first $100,000K of your hard earned income is the scam.

Yes,
if I had to do it again I would not own a house.
$500.00 a month to rent a house I own, LOL.
If you didn't pay your property tax, your city would be a garbage dump, nobody would want to live there, and your property would become worthless. Then you would owe no tax and be happy ya bum.
the Georgian economic perspective suggests land-tax is the only legitimate form of taxation.
If we shifted the full tax burden from income, sales, etc, exclusively to a land-tax it would be close to the most progressive tax scheme of all time. For better or worse, people need somewhere to live and the inelasticity of that demand would mean the increased tax could be pushed down to the tenant in some form.
I don't think the issue should be raising/lowering taxes; it should be about increased efficiencies/progress/technology to decrease the cost side.
Renters do pay property taxes unless the landlord was dumb enough to buy an overpriced property.

It's even worse than what you state. The first $100,00K ('ish) of your hard earned income is Social Security/Medicare tax. The federal income tax is on all your income, and also only 100 years old... somehow the nation flourished just fine from 1776-1913 without it and the IRS and Federal Reserve.
Dammit, anyone who doesn't like America's taxes can go find a country like Saudi Arabia where all they have is a 10% tithe for everyone.
Ben Franklin said there will always be taxes, and he is on the $100 bill, so pay it or get the hell out.
In 1807 Ohio required property owners to turn in between 10 and 100 squirrel skins in proportion to their tax bill.
Now you aren't even allowed to trap the little fukkers if you live in town.

THIS^^^
You may have paid off your mortgage, but you will never truely "own" your home. Stop paying your PT, and see what happens.
