Pretty crappy races to do it at, but would be neat if he can pull it off. Anyone know what his best recent time is?

This will be an interesting experiment. He might be able to pull of two in one day but I highly doubt he breaks 2:30 at both races. I hope I'm wrong

I wish him well, but personally I never run well in Las Vegas. The air is too dry, and the flight will take more out of him than he realizes.

This isn't about you.
Yeah, I tend to agree that running even 2 2:29:59s is going to take an extreme amount of tenacity. His PR is 2:17, but that was under absolutely perfect conditions at Grandma's with a tailwind a few years back. Other than that, I want to say that he's broken 2:22 twice. In 2013, he appears to have run a handful of 2:30s, but nothing faster. I believe he was injured for awhile and is likely in much better shape now, but even if he's in 2:20 shape, 2:29 will still beat him up enough that doing another one 8 or 9 hours after finishing the first is going to be brutally painful at best.
With all that in mind, the dude does race a ton and is used to taking a beating, so if anyone can do it, it's him. A friend of mine that races a lot (less than Wardian, but a lot) did Saturday/Sunday marathons a number of years back, finished the first about 30 seconds/mile off his PR, and then finished the 2nd only 1 second/mile off his PR, so it is apparently possible to run a pretty good marathon shortly after running another one.
"His most impressive back-to-back marathon effort might be the combination of his 2:21:50 effort (62nd place) at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials Marathon in Houston and the 2:31:17 he posted the following day en route to a 16th-place finish at the Houston Marathon."
2:21 then 2:31 the next day... he has a shot.
The extra 12 hours of rest makes a huge difference. Especially if he spent a lot of that in bed
"About 200 runners will be running the half or full marathons in San Antonio and Las Vegas."
Wait, what? 200 are trying some sort of double?
It's almost like someone trying to break 4 minutes in the mile twice in one day. Oh wait, someone can do that in one race back to back.
Second this, ran a 2:59 marathon the day after running a 3:12(both were PRS)
The 50 mile world record is 4:50, by Bruce Fordyce, the Comrades uber-stud. Obviously this is a bit under two marathons, but he did it without a break.
Wardian's 50 mile PR (set en route in Comrades, amusingly enough) is 5:21.
I have no idea what I'm trying to show from those numbers. Clearly two 2:30 in the same day is very possible. Whether Wardian is the guy to do it is another question.
I am guessing most sub 2:10 guys could do it but at that level 2:30s are at the level of training runs.Besides this guy is making it hard on himself. You do a race in europe somewhere and then fly to NV and race. You get to have another 5+ hours of rest.

I actually think the Olympic Trials/Houston Marathon double would be more difficult because his body would start going into repair mode after 24 hours. He will be tired after 8 hours, but, especially considering his ultra running abilities, will have some life in his legs. What could be interesting is that he may win both races if he goes sub 2:30. RnR Vegas was won in 2:32 and San Antonio in 2:27 last year. Winning two marathons in the same day is something that may never happen again.

Oh yeah, I'm sure there are a lot of Africans who could run 2:29 twice in the same day. Whether Wardian can do it is less clear. He also wants to win both races, but is racing a 2:20 guy in the first, which puts a serious kink in things. If that guy is in 2:20 shape right now and Wardian runs hard enough to try to beat him, he almost certainly won't run sub-2:30 in the next race. Presumably, the other guy will realize that, and that will keep him from slacking on the pace.
With Competitor group's money, they could rent him a private jet equipped with a massage table, masseuse, cryochamber, etc....
Oh wait, yeah, Competitor group does not like Elite runners, so no benefits for Mr. Wardian.
Mr. Wardian, if you are reading this, I wish you all the best, especially in my home state.
I would nominate Max King as the top guy to be able to do this. He's had some pretty stellar back to back days.

If his "PR" is a split from Comrades then that doesn't mean much...
Mr. Wardian isn't an elite athlete so competitor dropping support doesn't matter.

Unless it was an "uphill year"
Let's assume he's not using his pacing strategy from the 2008 Olympic Trials.
