Question for you marathon veterans: is there a way to line up in the right spot in your starting corral other than shoving your way there? This will be my first marathon, and the only experience I have with this was a half marathon I did a few months ago where I got to the line in what I thought was plenty of time (10 minutes before) but the corral was already so packed it was hopeless to push forwards and I spent the first 2 miles of the race passing swaths of people.
If it helps I will be in the first non-elite corral, so while there will certainly be a number of people faster than me there will be many more who are slower. Any experience dealing with this or do you just assert yourself?
