Been out of running since early November. Was doing a track workout and noticed some groin discomfort, and at the time thought I could try to run through it. I did, but it got worse, so I stopped...but it got worse as I walked home. By the time I get back I was pretty immobile and almost any movement involving the hip was painful. That acute phase lasted a few days, but obviously problems have lingered since. Over the course of six months it gradually improved...but still not to the point where I can run consistently. I could go out for a 6 miler of something, but the area feels noticeably worse afterwords (this seems to fade after 6-12 hours).
Symptoms - basically it's a feeling of achiness, never quite pain, in various regions of the hip (pretty non-localizable)from the groin, to the lateral side of the hip. More often it feels surface related, but on occassions can seem to be a little from inside the hip joint. No activities really hurt to do. The only way I can reproduce anything is if I plant my right leg, take my left foot and adduct my left leg forcibly against the right, as if I'm trying to sweep my right leg or something. This produces a little pain either right in the crease where my right leg joins the groin, or pain in the lateral hip.
Possible thoughts:
FAI/Labral Tear - Seems a possibility, but FADIR produces no pain or discomfort at all. Doesn't rule it out, but over 85% of cases have some reproductions of symptoms with FADIR. FABER also does not reproduce symptoms.
Osteoitis Pubis - could be a possibility, but again doesn't really seem to match common symptoms, as the discomfort can be all over the hip, and there is definitely no discomfort if I press firmly over the pubic symphisis.
XRay didn't show any problems (probably can rule out Sfx). The real kicker is the MRI (was not an athrogram), which showed some possible, though minor, impingement. It ALSO showed some inflammation of the pubic symphysis, though it was the left pubic symphisis that was affected (pain/discomfort presents in right leg).
Doc basically said take a few months avoiding activities that cause pain and see what happens. No real change since then.
I've been dealing with this for almost a year now, and obviously it really sucks not being able to run when you enjoy it like I do. Looking for any thoughts/ideas of where I ought to look...the most frustrating thing by far is not knowing exactly what the FVCK is wrong with my body and what to expect.
Thanks in advance!
