Do you take any time off at the end of the running 'season'? Whatever this is for you, say your big fall race.
Having competed competitively in other sports I know it is typical to have a few down weeks at the end of the season. I always had trouble with this. Either I was too excited and wanted to build on the seasons' successes, or I wanted to make up for failed goals.
Being older and having taken up running I think this will be even tougher. I am scared to slow down b/c I will gain wait. Plus the reasons I found it tough to take this time off before.
Is it necessary to have a few down weeks each year? What do you do for these weeks.
I should mention I had to take 3 weeks off in February b/c I was abroad with my 14 month old daughter and not my wife. I didn't think it was fair to take her away from home and then leave her with a babysitter so I could go running. I definitely feel like I lost some speed at this time.
