I'm a 400-800 runner in high school I am a senior this year, and I am currently training with the cross country team. During the summer after summer track we did 20-25 minute runs and X's on the football, now that school started my workout (only me not the rest of the team) has changed as such:
Mondays- 6-8x400s all at 1:04-1:08
Tuesdays- (off day) 1-2 mile jog on the grass then weight room
Wednesday- 12-16x hills (sprinting going up, jogging going down)
Thursday- (depends if there is a Friday cross country meet or not) if there is a cross country meet I jog 1-2 miles or walk on the track for a mile every other 100meters I walk on heels and toes then weight room. If there isn't a cross country meet I do a ladder with the team 400, 800, 1200, and 1600 then weight room.
Friday- either cross country meet or a "fun" workout
My track PR's are:
200: 24.01 (no blocks)
400: 52.6
800: 2:07
1600: 5:46
My question is am I or can I get anything out of this as a 400-800 runner? Can I drop my 400-800 times to a 50 or below and a 2 flat or below? Would this be considered as base training for a 400-800 runner? How would this affect me (good or bad)? What else should I do during this time?
