I've been running for a couple of months and I am trying to run under 17 minutes for a 5k my pr is 17:22. Before I was just running hard everyday because thats what I thought I was suppose to do if I wanted to become fast and I come from a gymnastics background which gave me that work hard everyday mentality. But then I started doing track workouts with a running group and found out the people faster then me don't run fast everyday they vary there runs. I'm just confused now because they were talking about tempo runs, long runs, and etc i have no idea what they are. Can someone give me a summary of what the different runs are and how to plan my runs? I usually average 25 miles a week.
