hey bro's, just hoping you could help a guy who just finished his first ever track season (this is my first proper year of running) with pretty mediocre PR's of 4:35 1500m, 10 min 3k and 16:50 3 mile ( on road), only managed a 17:30ish 5k however on track. i've just turned 17 and am really interested in having a good XC season which will (i understand?) help me run faster when track season comes around next year, and i want to focus on the 1500m or possibly 800.
Information about me:
5'9 on a good day, weigh 124lbs ish (after runs i only weigh 120lbs?) but i feel i look more muscular than that. e.g. not very skinny, (people say i look heavier because i look muscular).
Raw speed isn't amazing, but average i would say. could probably only just manage a 400m in sub 60? not sure. can finish 200m reps at the end of a long session in 30 secs so i think i could go much faster.
ran about 30-40mpw most of the season. schedule looking as follows:
Monday - Rest or easy run
Tuesday - Interval session. Quite high volume of things like 600's 400's etc.
Wednesday - easy run
Thursday - tempo 25 min. strides
Friday - easy run or rest
Sat - race or session ( could be speed i.e. short reps or longer intervals.)
Sun - Long challenging run of up to 10 miles recently.. (incorporates a tempo section - not a relaxed run by any means.
I don't measure the pace of my easy runs, but the tempos are done hard (usually aim for 85 secs a lap. )
Intervals on tuesday are usually very hard.
sunday run 6:50 ish pace with a tempo section faster. On very varying terrain so feels harder than it is though.
I understand many of you will say 'ask your coach' etc, but i want a number of opinions on how it is best to train.
Tuesday and thursday sessions will be set out already, so i don;t need particular help with them, as will the sunday long run.
The distances i will be running will be 5k's or 8k's usually. I understand this will probably mean i should increase my mileage if i want to be successful and improve. What mileage should i aim to reach, what pace should i run my runs in between sessions at, and is there anything else you think i should do to supplement running to improve.
