See, Idiot, that’s the problem: any nugget would make it easy, depending upon with whom you’re in contact.
Those initials bring back memories, though. I’m trying to think of details that you might have to put together yourself, and not trace.
Currently I live in the US, but spend much time in the Alps at a second home, will be there during Feb. Still looking for a Med place, because we will be likely moving there, I have filed the papers to have my euro citizenship recognized. Won several open state titles down here, and have been top-10 in world masters lists, although that was a few years ago when I still cared. Not from Van, but did live there for some years, and went to law school there. Ran into my RMC mom on Kits beach once after his discharge, and had dinner with him and a friend who was still serving, spent most of the time consoling the friend who thought that mom would never find a civilian footing after having worked for many years on a now-defunct helicopter project.
Asking him who it was would be unfair, but I used to get a kick out of saying “Hiya Fred!” to FW , in my best Barney Rubble voice. He would crack up every time, I don’t think he was so much laughing with me, as laughing at me?.
I haven’t kept in touch with anyone. A few guys would swing by my parent’s place to say hi, TS (GSXR750) and RJ (K 75 S, I think) are 2 that come to mind, and I was even there once or twice. I think TS liked the home cooking?.
I once got into an accident when I borrowed FM’s car (Mustang) and somebody ran a stop sign and hit me. I felt so bad that I paid for all the repairs out of my pocket.
MG once gave my gf a ride from the train station on his bike (Ninja 900R), and asked me if I would be offended if he told me how great he thought her breasts were, because she had on an anatomic backpack—and, well, they were great after all.?
All great guys. Some of the best people I have ever known.
Because it won’t be possible to look up, I once received a commendation from the DCadets for actively including “females” in a sporting event, for which they had apparently showered me with praise. It was strange because where I came from, only weirdos didn’t include women. I told the DCadets to shove his commendation because it was an embarrassment. He was not pleased.
I did not compete in track because I was exploring other things, and I figured that my track career was behind me. I did enjoy those morning runs at Basic, where I would lap everyone. I also won the PF crown a few times IIRC. Once it was listed as BE, but I had a cold for the regular one and had to do the supp, and by that time the award had already been given at parade. Funny enough, I had perfect scores in everything except for the run! I never cared enough to get 500, but I got very close. I’m pretty sure the guy who counted my situps fudged a bit, but I got well over 100 anyway, so it evened out.
He was a great guy, too. One time he and I took a canoe up the Rideau for a weekend and went fishing. We crashed out for a while on a nice rock, with our hats over our faces. When we awoke there was a giant splat of seagull crap on his hat! I still have the photo.
Lol I also still have a photo of me and JD at basic, looking “mean” in our full kit, with face camo. I should email people the various photos I have, they would get a kick out of them.
Good times. Don’t cheat by doing research! If you’re one of those I have mentioned, you will know. You never know, maybe we never crossed paths too much.
