Interested in a lot of LACs. Can anyone here tell me about their experiences at the various NESCAC schools? Running, team life, coaching, academics, social scene, and the uh... females. As much information as possible would be appreciated.

Also, any information on recruitment standards and how much that can help with admissions would be awesome.
Here are some of my stats:
SAT: 2310
GPA: 4.0 weighted (my weakest point)
Junior Year XC:
16:09 5K
Sophomore Track: (I missed Junior Track because of mono that I didn't realize I had until I had worn myself into nothing)
1600: 4:31
3200: 9:50
I've visited one coach and talked to another, but from what I've heard the entire conference is filled with great schools that I'd like to learn about and with school and the upcoming season I can't exactly go adventuring around every part of New England right now.
Have you connected with the Williams coach?
The combination of academics, location and history of the cross country program is hard to beat.

I'd love to hear about the various programs and what people think in general as well
What do Williams recruits need to get in? How much do good times help grades?
go newmac
You can't get a bad education in the NESCAC (I know someone is going to go on a rant about how much better Williams or Tufts is, but let's face it...all the schools are pretty darn good). Williams, Tufts, Bates, Bowdoin, Middlebury all have really good running programs. I would really encourage you to e-mail the coaches and arrange to visit/stay with the team, walk around campus and get a feel for the school, etc.
what kind of location are you looking for? if you want something more urban then Tufts or Trinity are probably your best bets. If you want something off the beaten path then look into Williams Amherst Middlebury Hamilton and Colby, if you want something in the middle check out Wesleyan Bowdoin Connecticut College Bates
As for running, you would be a solid recruit at any of them, Hamilton Colby Trinity and Conn College might be weaker than what you are looking for
Academically, they are all good schools (obviously some are stronger, I don't think anyone would say Connecticut College is as strong as Williams academically, but you would get a good education at them all) I would think you should be able to get into any of them but the GPA might be a little weak for Williams, Amherst, Middlebury. Depending on what their recruiting class is looking like though you could get some help with admissions and the sat should help you a lot
Thanks for all the info? Does anyone else have any experience?
Right now, I'm interested in Wesleyan and Tufts for sure. Based on what I've seen, I really want to know more about Bowdoin, Middlebury, Williams, and Bates as well.
I ran for Williams and loved it there--academcially, athletically, and everything in between. I had similar high school stats to you (a bit better academics, a bit worse athletics) and got a bit of admissions help from the coach, although things are getting faster every year.
You should absolutely email the coaches from all these schools just to put yourself on their radar and get more information. Most of the "recruiting" is just calling/emailing kids who have already expressed some interest, and an introductory email is the first step to getting a bit of help with the admissions office.
Athletically and academically I think you'll be a great fit at any of those schools that you mentioned. My only advice is to try to find a group of guys and a setting that you like. Best of luck.
For so,done looking to go d3, especially in the CAC, figuring out what the coach's training philosophy is, and how you mesh with the overall team dynamics is big. You will be able to get a great education and succeed athletically at any of the schools, but doing an overnight visit and really seeing what going to school is like at each of the ones you are seriously interested in is big.
Most of the schools have great running and academic environments. I was in your place and know exactly what you're thinking of. Some teams have a really strong history while others have had recent success and young, up and coming rosters. The league has a lot of talent each year. Great XC performances and Conn Coll's Leduc won a national championship as a junior. Fill out the recruiting forms for any school in which you might be at all interested and make contact with the coach. I found a great school that I didn't know much about and thus wasn't in the forefront of my search, ended up there and have loved the school and the team as much as I possibly could.
Can anyone give me the story on the midd program?
