Stumbled across this today. Hadn't seen it before. It's a nice summary of PEDs 101 if nothing else.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/olympics/athletics/7403158.stmCool - thanks for posting this. I think I had seen this or something similar from Conte a few years back but hadn't saved it.
Does anyone on the board know if there's a similar summary of a mid-d or long distance focused doping program?
Agreed! Pseudo Science and no real improvement in times. Interesting how UK sprinters (except Gemili and Dasol) get all puffed out and cannot run sub ten. Drugs are not the answer.
what are all the 1500 women on

And heck why not, blood transfusions. They help, a lot.

Drugs seemed to work pretty well for Ben Johnson, Tim Montgomery & Lance Armstrong.
HYPOTHESIS
Drugs + 0 / minimal change in training = 0 / minimal change in results.
Drugs + leverage improved recovery from hard training to significantly increase quality work = significant improvement in results.
PROPOSED EXPERIMENT
compare Tim Montgomery pre/post doping training logs to Dwain Chambers pre/post doping training logs.
HGH was used three nights per week, typically on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Each injection would contain 4.5 units of growth hormone. Once again, this substance was used primarily during the off season to help with recovery from very strenuous weight training sessions.
Conte should have asked Dwain to eat a kitchen sink while he was at it.
About HGH, Wada has this vague statement:
"What effect can HGH have on athletic performance?
Literature and research have shown in particular that HGH has an ergogenic and anabolic impact, and that it enhances the anabolic power of steroids."
But, Wikipedia quotes this study:
"Claims that growth hormone enhances physical performance are not supported by the scientific literature".
And a US House Committee report, which found:
"that the misguided use of HGH by professional athletes and entertainers was fuelling the industry peddling the drug to the general public".
I can't recall the date of this paper, but think someone here once said it was from the early 2000s? (Always date your work, kids!)
Would love to see a distance program like Conte's sprinting one, too.

Look at papers rather than Wikipedia, which is frequently written by people with an agenda. Most recent research suggests that HGH does not improve functional strength or aerobic capability, but it does improve anabolic or anaerobic capability. Wada appears correct (surprise). Also HGH is to my knowledge not taken by itself but as part of as stack with SARMS these days.
Ben Johnson ran 10.25 in his late teens while in the cold weather of Canada. I believe still could have ran sub 9.9 in my opinion. Tiny Tim ran a 10.01 while in junior college I have to believe good training and a legal good diet plan would get the athletes close. Christian Cantwell, Reese Hoffa, and Adam Nelson are clean in the throws. The only event I believe you cannot compete with someone on rocket fuel are the distance races above 1500 meters.

Another interesting interview from dope dealer Angel Heredia:

I ran against Ben in his late teens several times. He only ran about 10.4 hand timed in 80 degree heat in the summer in Hamilton. If he ran 10.25, it was hand timed and should have been rounded up to 10.3. He was a basic 10.4 guy before the drugs - which started in 1982. Ditto for many of the other Canadian sprinter hurdlers - many of whom claimed Clemson as their US home base.
That Conte letter is lifted from Chambers book which ironically i'm reading at the moment.
WHole book is an interesting insight into drug use in elite sport

Regarding the cream and clear, I wonder how many people have tested positive and were legitimately sabotaged? It looks like it'd be pretty easy to do if an injection isn't needed. I can see why Paula Radcliffe was extremely paranoid.
