If this is true (hasn't been announced yet), bets on how long he stays? I don't think it's a good hire, when he's known to jump around a lot. Going to be hard getting kids to commit when they don't know how long the coach will stay.

Coach Hayes to Kentucky
I thought it was Coach Hayes to Ole Miss?
You're an idiot!!

I don't get this jumping around crap and then saying "they are doing a great job".
He left Stanford for Kentucky then goes to Oklahoma! WTF?
Why would anyone want to run for a guy like that?
How can you judge him when he jumps around so much?
I get the moving to a better program, but he is just moves around!
Add to the list Vigilante and Hartman,
Did you all just get birthed!? Jason does not "jump around". He was at UVA for 7 years or so. He left there to go to Stanford. He was there for about 4 years. He left because Edrick got the Kentucky job and he wasn't going to get the Stanford job. Would you hang out in Palo Alto and HOPE the new head guy hires you? Hell no!!
He went to Kentucky with Edrick and, now, a better opportunity has presented itself. Three programs in 12 years. That's jumping around? Sometimes life just happens and timing is everything. My suggestion is that the posters that are accusing Jason of jumping ship...educate yourselves. Otherwise...shut up and keep your bitterness to yourself!
Jason didn't coach the women at Kentucky, DeVries did. So i don't see why speaking of their top two girl is relevant.
It seems to me that jason didn't get "fruits" he was hoping to reap at Kentucky the past year. The boys team just didn't see the immediate success the girls did.
Dunn is an excellent coach and he's an intelligent person. Coaching is not just his job to make ends meet its his career and passion. So who wouldn't take an opportunity to coach a better team (men and women now) in a university where he will be respected.
Wait, you are suggesting that since he was not handed a gold mine at Kentucky, he jumps to another team that has some studs to make him look like a good coach. Face it, he inherited a team at Stanford that would have made hundreds of coaches look great. Now, with the task of actually developing and re-building, he leaves. Sounds smart, but, not like a guy who has confidence in his ability to coach.
As for coaching women, Stanford took the women away from him.
I am trying to interpret your comments.
He built a great team at UVA and developed a group of talented guys to the next level at Stanford. Wasn't the current UK women's coach his athlete at Stanford? Also I don't think Chris Derrick would have been as good as he was in college without Dunn.
Coaching women is different that coaching men, and frankly I think he missed that. Stephanie Garcia now professional steeplechaser for New Balance was a diamond in the ruff in Virginia. He has many stories like that.
I believe he has plenty of confidence in his ability or else he wouldn't go to Oklahoma at all.
horrible coach, esp for women
Dunn didn't coach Garcia. Ironically, her best performances came under MaryJane, who JimmyV dumped so Dunn could coach m&w at OU. Brilliant!

Bleu wrote:Was Dunn coaching the 2 girls at KY who got super fit but didn't do anything at NCAAs? Didn't he coach at VA or W&M. Wow OK is a pit. Football maybe but a can only imagine how hard it would be to recruit kids from the East or West coasts to come to the flatlands.
You mean the 2 All Americans at Nationals?
No, their (two 'girls') absence at the 2013 D-1 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
18 Chelsea Oswald JR Kentucky 35:06.02
She also ran the 5k.
As a longtime outside observer of the UK Track & Field program, I think both Jason Dunn and Hakon DeVries were a considerable upgrade over previous coaching at UK.
Grades issued for their coaching during the 2012-13 UK Cross-Country and Track Seasons:
Jason Dunn: B
Hakon DeVries: A-
Thanks "Bleu." Absent (might as well have stayed home) and burnt is correct. Glad to hear JD didn't coach them bc I thought he was too good a coach to guide that train wreck.
Mary Jane previously of App. state and Virginia Tech?
Where is she coaching. excellent coach.
CO ran poorly (essentially 'absent') at the NCAA outdoor meet. No fault of hers, I don't think. Was her performance due to the demands of running the 5&10 at the SECs and the East Regionals?
Still gonna be stuck behind Oklahoma State and Tulsa for the foreseeable future.
Interesting to see if Martin Smith can overtake them at Iowa State also
Probably, but NCAA's is a hit or a miss with someone who has qualified for the first time. She was injured for the past 3 years at UK with numerous stress fractures. When the new staff came in, she got healthy and ran the BEST she has ever run.
There are numerous other runners who have had terrible performances at the NCAA meet. The fact of the matter is she ran at the NCAA outdoor meet.

Do you realize the two girls you are talking about were total non-factors until this year. they just had great years and did more than others do in a career. and don't give me this crap that 'they were good in high school'. they were top 50 recruits AT BEST. they worked hard, and did a great job. good coaching with both the men and women. your drinkin the hatorade if you say different.
