13:19 for Webb
14:01
Hopefully Webb has finally realized that bicep curls were what brought him to prominence, and they will do so again.
I'm thinking sub 20 for sure.
13:15 - 13:25 if he's really ready to race and runs smart. Over 13:25 if he goes out too fast or isn't ready to go. I don't see anything in his performances in the last few years that leads me to think he's going to get a PB of sub 13:10, I would be very surprised by that, and happy for him. But I just don't expect that. 13:15 - 13:25 - Bank on it.
There is no money outside of expenses like group travel ( bus or charter plane) , hotel and meals for these guys at the level they are racing at. They may get a bonus offer for time/place. Possible rabbit work as well that pays.
They are b level runners at this stage in their careers.
Meet directors don't care about training groups , they build the field off the specific race and how athletes may complement the stars to fill out the field.
Chris can make far more money in road racing that have prize purses and stay domestic in the US.
I work at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, and Webb often uses the track here. While I was working, I passed by the track and saw him working out last week. He's a super nice guy and I previously got an autograph from him, since there usually aren't too many people around.
He was doing 1000m repeats, of which I saw three. I timed him and he ran 2:34, 2:36, 2:32. After that he took a lap and ran some 200s at around 29 seconds.
Not the type of fitness some people are joking about on this thread, but pretty fit.
Be serious! I have it from very unreliable sources that Webb's previous 5k races were really medium effort tempo runs. Knowing this and the fact (again unreliable sources) that he is actually racing in Huesden, any experienced runner can extrapolate from there and conclude that he is in 12:35 shape.

Alan, is done. I don't know if he is a media personality or a coach but I don't see him ever qualifying for a US team again. 13:39 would be great or DNF.
Why does he run 3:46 1500's? Is he jet-lagged? He must be in better shape than that. He probably does workouts at that pace honestly. Maybe he's still struggling with injuries.
I think he'll run in the 13:20's.
He'll probably run around 13:47

Can we delete this thread?
If Webb breaks 14, I'd be surprised.
WHO CARES.

So they've run their actual event (5k) once this year? Twice if you include that indoor time trial at the armory.
You mean that indoor race? It's amazing how dumb some people on here are. As if any of the diamond league 5k's aren't any more of a time trial.
Oh and what makes their actual event the 5k? Nobody ever goes back and forth between events? Also how many 5k's should they have run by July 12th? And Bumbi ran a 10k, maybe that's his event. People run both events, it's not just one or the other, black and white.
Never understood the fascination of alan webb. The guys has pretty much been overrated his whole career.

I think some people thought Alan Webb was properly rated higher than any up and coming U.S. miler when he broke Jim Ryun's longstanding high school mile record. Then some other people thought that Alan Webb was better than a lot of U.S. milers when he ran faster than any U.S. miler ever did, setting the U.S. record.
No one understands fascination, but I understand respect for his accomplishments and rating him very, very highly. He has two key records for U.S. distance runners. This is a U.S. running website. Makes sense to me.
It takes a special brand of pessimism to think that anyone who thought Webb would have a third massive race was overrating a guy who had one at age 18 and another at age 24. He is still only 30.
