Leo is awesome. His "inconsistency" is indicative of not being a dope, in my view. If you dope, you likely always have good races as your limit really becomes your mental fortitude, the ability of the rabbits, weather, and other exogenous events. Leo has good days and bad days just like everyone else. In my mind, there is no way Leo dopes. 0% chance.
He is also incredibly consistent. You can pretty mich bank on Leo having 2 clunkers a year, and thee rest of the time being as dominant as any other 1500 meter runner in the world. Leo's medal will some day be upgraded. Wait and see.
On to sponsorship. My understanding from an inside source is that he was offered a nike sponsorship. So to villify Nike completely isn't right. The sponsorship he was offered though was inconsistent with what Leo thinks he is worth. So its a contract dispute more than not having a contract.
Clearly Leo from a business perspective took a calculated business risk and has lost thus far. Nike should love to have someone like Leo on their payroll as he appeals to both the Latino and non-Latino communities. One smartly done commercial would make almost any contract Leo is asking for worth it.
Unfortunately, however, the disagreement persists. My bet is this gets resolved sooner rather than later. No way he races worlds without a spnosor. At some point, though, Leo will have to cave. The opportunity cost of not having a paycheck and bonus stipulations is going to hurt more and more as the summer wanes.
