I ran out by Huffaker Hills near dusk one time and this bird divebombed me twice. It never hit me but I couldn't believe how loud the thing was. I think I must have dropped a 60 second quarter trying to get away from that thing.
Oh, I guess a run together might be out since my schedule is not typical at the moment (I'm with family, but sort of on business, long story).
ok, since it is so close, I will check this out tomorrow. thanks a bunch
You mean the free wine and beer from the hotel? Oh, I ran in the morning, nothing close to doubles for me (sometimes less than singles), so I had no trouble getting some free beer/wine in me.
? "that run" ? The trail run or the happy hour "run" or a run on the treadmill in front of the pool? Not sure I caught your drift here.
Reno runner, I am an evening runner.
I will be running FROM the RI at 7pm.
Follow the route I described - keep watching for open fields and gravel paths on the edge of them.
On Double R Blvd. just north of S. Meadows is a lake with a surrounding path that would give you a mile loop for tempos.
On Double R Blvd. just south of S. Meadows is a huge field with a path you can do a loop around....at least a 3 mile loop.
I will be at the computers in the clubhouse at 6:30pm watching (hopefully) the US nats T&F.
I look like your typical grizzled Masters runner.
cool! I will look for you. I am master's runner too.
you are gonna miss the men's 10k if you leave for your run at 7:00. Push your run back to 7:30. Just lookin' out for you. I will look for you at 6:30 though (but will also be watching game 7 nba)

Reno native - any good running on the other side of 580?
South Meadows becomes Foothill Road on the other side of 580. How far back into the hills (on that side of 580) would one have to go to access trails?
Also, how manageable/brutal is Reno in the winter?
Thanks.
Other than Bartley Ranch, mentioned earlier, and the adjacent Anderson Park, you have to go up a couple miles from S. Virginia St to get to any dirt trails on the other side of 580. Go up Arrowcreek Parkway, about a 1/4 mile past Thomas Creek Rd and on the left will be a small park. You can access the lower Thomas Creek trail there. Or turn left on Thomas Creek, go about 3/4 mile and access the lower Whites Creek Trail. Drive just past it and park in the dirt lot by the Chevron.
Other options to the east, drive to the end of Steamboat Parkway, turn left at the stop sign and go to the end of the paved road. Park, start running the dirt road, then at the electrical substation, turn firght and go up the hills to the east. About 800' up there's a fork, take the left (steep) hill which is short, then you'll head into a nice valley with various trail options.
Winter running in Reno isn't bad at all most of the time. It's like any high desert, can be cold in the morning but with sunny days. Snow doesn't usually last long. I run in shorts most days at lunchtime throughout the winter. It's much better than my native northern Ohio.
Liberals are destroying Reno. I hope you all get ejected from our lovely city.

Why Reno isn't uttered in the same breath as Eugene, Boulder, Boise, Provo, Spokane.....is beyond me.
Thoughts?????
SNAKES! Huge SNAKES! Reno has huge VENOMOUS snakesI nearly stepped on one slithering across the bike trail down by the river. It was hiding in the grass along a crack in the pavement and I saw it at the last minute and did a magnificent mid air reversal.
It was this big!

Remember, it's not the snakes you can see that you have to worry about.
Ran the Steamboat Ditch trail today. It is a nice trail but essentially blocked going out of the park on each end. There is only a mile or so of usable trail.
