I mean, what in the world? I do 100m hill sprints (as measured by Garmin and "verified" on googleearth and mapmyrun, maybe give or take 1-2m) and I just recently cracked 16 for the first time. This is a 100m hill with a fairly constant (and average) 6% grade. Thinking I must be fairly blazing on the track now, I went and did 3x max 100m sprints with 3-4 mins rest in between and went 15.0, 14.7, 15.1.
What the hell? Why can I not run any faster?
I can crack a 17 min 5k but I can barely break 15 for a 100m or 30 for a 200m and only a 62-63 for a 400m.
This is really bumming me out. I've been doing 60m and 100m hill sprints for a while and even some plyo jumps but there seems to be no correlation with speed.
Is it simply a matter of getting out there and sprinting a few times a week? Max sprints? Or mile paced stuff? Any ideas. I don't want to be so friggin' slow anymore.
