If B-Mart is still fit like she was at Pre, I would think of her as the favorite in the 800. Montano didn't look like herself and Brenda looked like a world beater coming down the home stretch.

She might have a chance to sneak in ONLY because Jenny has a free pass and Brenda may be doing the 800. And people are forgetting about Mackey, who barely beat Cain at Occidental (but probably wouldn't do it now). Also don't forget about Sarah Brown and Gabrielle Anderson, both of whom have faster times than Rowbury, and Rowbury has to finish in front of at least one of them.
Rowbury blew by Anderson and Brown in New York. She also beat them both (and Cain) at Drake
The conditions were horrible in New York yet she managed to close her last 200 in 29. The only reason she doesn't have a faster time is because she hasn't run 1500 meters since New York. Had she run at Oxy or Pre, she would most definitely have the A standard.
She also ran 15:18 for 5K at Pre all by herself so she definitely has the strength she needs for the rounds.
You people need to follow the sport a bit better and stop doubting a seasoned and consistent championship runner.
Is it not possible to double up in the 8 and 15 at nationals?

It is possible, but with rounds and the competition in both events it may not be the smartest thing to do.
Pretty retarded that they have 1500 semis. Can't they figure out who the 10 or so best 1500 runners are? I could.
No semi would make doubling plausible and get our best team to the WC.
WHY THE FVCK
are they running 800 and 1500 rounds on the same day?!
WHY THE FVCK
don't track championships stagger events?
100,400,1500,10000 should be on different days than
200,800,5000, both relays
Even Capt Picard agrees:
Two rounds of elimination in 800. Otherwise they are staggered.

She has the second fastest time in the world right now. Hard to argue that she wouldn't be in the mix if she keeps racing like she has been. And while Niyonsaba has a mid-1:56 out there, she is pretty inexperienced in terms of championship-level racing.
niyonsaba has very little experience racing period, she started competing last year, and her first couple of 800's she would run the whole race in the lane she started in, because she did not know she was allowed to break into lane 1 at a certain point, she ran 1 8000 meter race entirely in lane 3 and another 800 entirely in lane 2. freakish talent.

They are doing this just to ensure the athlete can actually run rounds once world championships come where it is now 3 rounds, not 2.

wow - that sure improves Cain's chances of making it to Moscow.
Remember, the US gets to send 4. This is great for Uceny as well.
If semis are such an issue for some runners, then that's a good thing. We want runners going that can actually handle it, considering that the actual games play out that way. If you can't beat an otherwise second rate American in the 1500 because you also ran the 800, you definitely aren't going to beat top tier international competition.

Are the trials timetable set up so that if USA have a medal contender in both 800 and 1500m, theres really unrealistic they will be able to qualify for the USA teams in both events? Say you get a version of Coe/Ovett, either female or male, would they have a hard time qualifying because of the timetable?
Eh, whatever. Cain's best chance is clearly the 1500 where if the pace is a little slow, she has a chance to do well.
The 800 won't be slow so I think she would have little chance in Moscow in that event. It could well be her best event but I don't think she is quite ready for 156 yet.
I see no point in this 5k stuff unless AlSal believes she has a big one in her.
Sorry to disappoint all, but Brenda has zero, and I mean zero chances of getting a medal in the 800 m. Not to say that she is not a good runner but, there are just too many runners better than her in this particular distance
There is the Burundian girl, who I think can and will only get better, some Russians, and a host of good runners from all over europe, africa and jamaica, she will not get a medal in 800m she will be lucky to get into the finals.
1500 m on the other hand she could medal and even get a win, Why? because (1) The top contenders in 1500 m (I count One Swede, One Ethiopian and two Kenyans) are over racing all everywhere right now, I think for these ladies money at the moment is more important than the title, I see a few injuries and fatigue to several africans before Moscow.
(2) Finals are a tactical affair and whomever has the most energy/tactics left at the end of the rounds going into the final is going to win. Time coming into Moscow wont matter. This season Brenda has shown some good strategic decesions
All the best wishes to Brenda, but, 1500 was your best chance
She ran a 4:04.86 and races have been won in 4:01 or under 3 times this year. Mean while martinez NEGATIVE SPLIT a 1:58.18 and is second in the world. She should make the final and has a reasonable shot of finishing anywhere from 2nd to 5th and could pull a shocker and get 1

from there who is definitely better than Cain at this distance? She probably can run the 800 close to a second faster than she did at the Pre.
Good point. Her pacing there was HORRIBLE.

No, this post is pretty retarded.
The best team needs to have runners who can get through rounds, obviously.
By your logic, we could just race the top 8 guys in a timed final for the 100/200/400/110h/400h. Guaranteed nobody outside of that list makes the team. But the guy who does make it should be the one from that group who handles rounds best.

Agreed! In fact, they should have 3 rounds at 1500m since this is what our team will face in Moscow!
