Running is my first priority, however, I am swimming about an hour after my runs to help gain some aerobic fitness. Should I do a workout, or just easy laps at a steady pace?

Do NOT do a resistance workout - one with a lot of short, fast reps. This will give you some upper body bulk, which you don't want with your running.
Do a steady warm-up, then 100s or 200s at a slightly faster than steady pace, with 30 sec recoveries. The point is to have you breathing hard when you finish, catch your breath, then go again.
And don't do it straight after an aerobic running work out. Do it on your easy days, or at least several hours later.

Why train any differently than when you run? I swim 3 days a week in addition to running and biking. I have a long easy day, a tempo day and a speed day.
