Is 90 miles a week too much for a high school senior building base??? In my history I have managed periods of time in the 70s wtihout injury.

It depends on the person really. People have done it, some very successfully. If your highest is 70, then I wouldn't go over 80. Also, be consistent with your mileage. Doing 90 mpw for 2 or 3 weeks is probably not worth the risk of injury. Especially if you are racing 5K. 80 mpw is a good base at your age for a 5K race. Just stretch a lot, eat good food, get lots of sleep, and maybe throw in a few hill repeats in a couple times per week during your base to maintain your quad muscles. Good luck.
dont listen to that crap
go all out man

I say go for it. Just build up slowly and keep consistant and you'll be okay. I've trained at about that amount of miles this year as a Senior and have been fine.
I was able to keep a base of 70-80 during my senior year in high school and keep the in season mileage at 65-70 with no problems. The key for me was eating right and making sure that I was in bed at 9 every night (to wake up at 6am to run 3m). I started running my junior year so my coach and I tended to be a little aggresive. It worked for me - resulting in PR's 4:17 for the mile, 9:22 for the 2mile, and 19:29 for 4 miles. But the real measuring stick for me believing in the training was the fact that I was able to set all new Pr's in college. I hope this helps.
Do what you need to do to progress... many great runners (Pre, Schul, Kennedy, Liquori, Shorter to an extent) are known more for their intensity. Of course, its always personal, but I'd say raise your intensity first. Try out 75 high intensity. Leave a lot of room for maturity. Intensity is definitely consistant among the best.
I like to do 75 times a poo, followed by receiving 4 x a blumpkin.
Do you know the blum[pkin man the blumpkin man the blumpkin man"? Do you know the blumpkin man he lives on taking poos
Not to hijack the thread, but I have a related question:
I have 3 months to peak for track (5k). I hope to run 16:45 or lower. After that race I will not run competitively for 3-4 years at the very least, as I want to focus on my studies on college.
Initially I was planning to run 90 mpw for a couple of weeks for a mini-base, with lots of high end aerobic training and tempo runs, etc (the stuff this board advocates). I know this is optimal for long-term improvement.
But since I'm not going to be running again in quite a while, wouldn't it be better to do lots of high intensity for the best short term gain? Like 50 mpw with 3 track workouts a week or something.
Input is greatly appreciated.
