Does grad school pay $200k per year? That's what I've been making for about the last 10 years answering a phone for troubleshooting calls once every 3-4 hours and the fix is always the same (reset the unit).
I second what the guy said about mindless work being brutal. When we actually had real engineering problems that required thinking under pressure I was much happier.
However, how do you leave a $200k per year job for a $100k per year job when you have kids, etc. ? I am edging towards a career change but it's hard to take a hit like that...
Keep job. Save money. Live frugally.
For the past 5 years I've worked at a job that basically entails me sitting alone on my computer browsing Letsrun & news websites 10 hours a day to pass the time.
The actual "work" is supposed to be me emailing fellow employees technology tips/strategies/updates as my employer seems to believe that none of them can use a computer, but hey thats fine by me.
Im also the guy that administrates the webfilter for our workplace and makes sure nobody is doing anything too bad on company desktops , but hey I can do whatever I please. (youtube)
Im not really IT as im never responsible for troubleshooting/fixes or anything like that, my official position is "Technology Coach" basically "helping" employees utilize our wonderful technology so as to maximize efficiency and productivity.
I make 68k and im not a spending person so im doing just fine.. at the expense of my sanity.
Pharma sales rep or in-office pharma customer service rep. I worked one full day a month, the day my boss rode along with me. Most days I would wake up at 9 or 10, go out and made a few sales calls, have lunch, do a little computer work, and then go fishing, run, smoke a bowl, whatev. My day was over by 3 or 4, and I made 41k plus mileage. Lost that gig due to company-wide layoffs, but life was good for a while.

CEO of Microsoft.
Commercial airline pilot, at least outside of takeoff and landing.
I would love to know a truck driver that "zones out". He won't be doing that job too long(he might not be alive to do another job either). I would think a nuclear tech like Homer Simpson could do this and earn decent money(sans a meltdown).

I asked for something where I can zone out all day. Try to keep up, moran.
hmmm...I dunno about that. It's better to give the benefit of the doubt that maybe there was a little political joke there. Namely, that "zoning out" is, in fact, exactly what the U.S. prez does all day?
Supreme Court Justice......you can sit on the court for 15 years and not say a word while you doze off.
UPS driver!
This sounds pretty crappy, really. At least doing something like mowing lawns or some repetitive task you are actually doing something. Surfing the web all day long every day would get old real quick I'd think, but then one would also probably actually make use of their time away from work since they got all their browsing done earlier in the day. haha.
